Eh, I don't know, I mean, hiding a super mega death ray inside an existing planet is arguably easier to keep quiet than a whole new space station.
I assume you'd have to get relatively close to notice. Could just be that they assumed it was one of their bases.

No, but them I'm not actively spying on the military or searching for secrets.
Ask Edward Snowden or Chelsea Manning. They have experience in gaining top secret military info.

Except for the part where The First Order, despite having far fewer resources than the Empire, had to:
1. Design the technology to absorb an entire star and compress all that matter to fit into a hollowed out planet, be capable of firing shots through hyperspace, create a hyperdrive powerful enough to transport an entire planet, have the technology to hollow out the planet and create something which will mitigate the mass of the absorbed stars so as to prevent completely destroying everything due to the increased gravitational pull.
2. Actually hollow out said planet and produce said technology.
3. Do all of this without any other power finding out, no criminal elements, no Resistance spies, no New Republic spies (though I suppose the NR could be too stupid to figure out how spying works), no leakers revealing this, nothing. Complete secrecy.

I don't see that being easier for the First Order to do and keep secret than the massive, unriavaled Galactic Empire building a big space station with a big gun without anyone noticing.

I don't think it unreasonable. Particularly considering the current status of the galaxy, not exactly stable. Also it's out in Unknown Space.

The world isn't just black and white though.

Star Wars is some classic western/medieval fantasy/samurai inspired shit though. It was super black and white for forty years.

That isn't top secret military info.
Top secret military info gets people "spontaniously disappeared".

The point is if the resistance had the blueprints, why haven't they attacked sooner?
It would be really convenient if they got those blueprints an hour before the attack, would it not?

Tfw the Bendu predicts that Thrawn's going to be force choked. He's going to tick off Vader in some way.

Well it wasn't until Finn's insider knowledge that they had a good enough plan.

If a janitor knows it isn't exactly a well kept secret.
They needed like one spy on the inside to know.

Nobody ever suspects a radar technician.
