Should probably avoid Skywalkers as well. They tend to do a fair bit of chopping themselves.

It can protect yourself from getting your hand chopped off, you know, like what happens in most of the movies.

It guides those strikes to your arm or the top part of the lightsaber instead.
Which means you'll lose an arm or your weapon instead.

If you managed to block the sword, that is, otherwise you'll still lose your hand.

The answer against hand-chopping of moves is wearing light-saber resistant armour, not using a ridiculous lightsaber.

That's not how cross guards work.

I feel like Kylo's crossguard would just get cut off instead of actually being useful ever

It'd have to be made with lighsaber resistant material to be able to be used as an actual crossguard.
As it is, I think it's the perfect fit for the character of Kylo Ren. Unstable, atypical.

But it works so well here: Kylo is edgy in a figurative sense, while his lightsaber is edgy in a literal sense :p

My point exactly.

The 2 stupid mini blades don't make a proper crossguard.

Sure. But for some reason it always ends up as a conflict between the light side and the dark side.

Because Jedi are not as smart as they think they are?

Kylo Ren's lightsaber is fine. About as fine as Maul's double sided anyhow.

Maul's saberstaff is several miles below Kylo's in terms of reasonableness.

Miles of Reasonableness: the number of miles a reasonable person would be willing to run in order to obtain a given thing. The more practical the thing, the more effort a reasonable person will expend to obtain it.

New Hope and the Phantom Menance, Attack of the clones is more about the start to the clone wars then the Sith and Jedi.

I was wondering...

What would be the most impractical weapon in star wars?

I already thought of several impractical choices:

  • lightsabers
  • Vibroswords
  • Bo-rifle
  • Electrostaffs
  • Death Star
  • electrowhips
  • gungan energy-thingies
  • AT-AT
