You haven't really tested to see if your computer can "play" Civilization until you've played til the end on a 260x180 map with 35 civilizations.

I've done that. It's not amazingly slow, but you can notice the difference.

I just straight up installed Chrome

I also use Konqueror from time to time but that's like a breather from Chrome.

I'm probably going to switch to Iron relatively soon.
This is basically my browser setup right now:

Windows I'm using Chrome. Main OS, main browser. Been using Chrome since...2009? Something like that.

Debian I'm using Chromium. Basically the only reason I'm not using chrome is because :opensource:.

Mint I'm using Pale Moon dressed up to look like chrome. I'm using Mint as an "experimental" OS where I basically fuck up everything possible just to see what happens. I'd never use a Firefox fork seriously, lol.

EDIT: I love how Opera litterally pegs themselves as "the alternative browser".

At least, I don't think so. Might be an :amd: issue, because my Intel rocks 90+ all day long.

But back to your problem.

1: Make sure you applied your thermal paste properly.
2: Make sure your heatsink is attached properly.
3: Make sure your fans are all functioning properly (NOTE: You should ALWAYS have more intake fans than outtake fans)
4: moar thermal paste
5: Try running it without the side panel

1 - It is, I've done it dozens of times before without issue.
2 - It is, the thing is rock solid I couldn't move it if I wanted to.
3 - They are, though one heatsink I put in the fan was dead, so I just tossed it and tried another.
3.5. I have three intake, and one outake, the outake being right on top of the heatsink where the fan pushes though.
4. Too much thermal paste is just as bad as to little.
5. Tried, didn't make a difference.

I'm getting a Cooler Master EVO 12 heatsink, I will see if this helps the issue or not. If it doesn't I'm going to go down the list of RMA, I'll start with CPU, if the new one has same issue I'll RMA the board, and if it's still an issue I'll RMA the power supply though I can't see why the PSU would be an issue it powers it just fine, the BIOS shows correct voltage draw.

I just can't think of any other reason why the computer would shut off after five minutes of being turned on, then when you power on after it shuts of it'll shut off in less than two minutes. Since there is no POST beeping I can't think of any other reason beyond overheating. And since it ran absolutely fine when power was taken off the eight pin connector that powers the CPU that leads me to believe it has to be the CPU. As just powering the board with the large connector led to it being on for 3+ hours without ever shutting off.

So let me get this straight. It works fine with the stock cooler, but not with the aftermarket custom cooler?

Also, it does sound to me like CPU overheating because it shouldn't shut down on you after 5 minutes of being turned on. Have you checked the CPU for any physical defects?

No, neither the stock cooler nor the aftermarket one seemed to get it to come past down 70c in the few minutes I was in BIOS. NOTE: the aftermarket was a lowprofile one, so it wasn't super powerful.

Yes, I can get into the BIOS the first time I turn it on and it stays on for 5-10 minutes before it shuts itself off. As far as I can tell I don't see any damage to the the CPU or the socket itself, though I don't necessarily know what I should be looking for specifically in the socket. The CPU chip non of the pins are bent and the processor itself looks fine.

Well then it's definitely not the board, nor is it a power issue.

Sounds to me like the CPU is the prime culprit. If there aren't any visible signs of damage or neglect on the CPU, then it's entirely possible that you just got a doa chip.

It's really weird that the BIOS can see it fine, though, before the computer shuts itself off. That's why I thought it might be a strictly overheating issue.

If you really think it's overheating and not the CPU what you should do is, if you have an IR thermometer use that and see how long it takes before it reaches critical temperature on the fly. You can also do the same with your hand or an electronic thermometer, but I'm thinking it'd be less accurate. Also pay attention to everything that's going on in a 5 minute run of your system to see what the issue is. You know better than us how your setup should be running because you're there.

I'd say the same as Bezombia if everything is fine with how the system is running though.

Over 200 workstations?!

I got bored of hitting the plus button after 200.
I'm honestly not sure what the upper limit is. It's the first linux distro I've used that supports more than four.

I'm going to wait until I get my Cooler Master EVO 12 heatsink before turning it back on again, and I'll see if it continues to happen. If it does I'm just going to RMA the CPU and hope for the best.
