Honestly, especially after Simple Ways, Spike's total crush on Rarity seems to be waning (at least to the point where he's not even that envious of Trenderhood). Plus SS would actually need the CMC's help to woo him because of his crush. If she were to go after Featherweight or really any other colt in her class, she would most likely not need help too woo them (least of all from the CMC) because she is, after all, the second most popular gal in school (or appears to be).
Maybe I just want to see Sweetie Bell give SS's hair the Rarity-ringlet treatment, not to mention fake eyelashes and eye shadow (though they should prove ineffective at winning Spike over; we don't want to teach 8 year old girls the wrong thoughts about wearing makeup).
Well, have Diamond Tiara go away with her dad on a business trip for a week, and then show that she's basically been using DT as a crutch in social situations, without the main bitch, she's actually a shy and nervous pony who's self conscious about what other ponies think of her. That way, she'd still need the CMC's help to get Featherweight and the episode wouldn't be ruined by Spike. Honestly at this point, any episode that has Spike in it has not been a good episode. It's a trend that started with Spike At Your Service.

Well I stick by Spike in this situation, but I certainly see your point. I was trying to use this episode to buck that trend of bad Spike episodes (though 'Simple Ways' wasn't all that great, it wasn't Spike's fault). I am really curious as to how the upcoming ep, which features Spike heavily, will fare.
I think the decrease in the quality of Spike-related eps is mainly due to writers treating him like a butt-monkey. He has shown the capability of being a deep character ('Secret of My Excess' anyone? - mind you, written by a male) but is rarely given the chance thanks to flanderization and character discontinuity. This plot, especially with ending A, could save him from the character derailment train and give a major insight into SS; who is right now far too flat.

Honestly, I really wish Luna and Celestia would be Queens and then Twilight could be an actual Princess. A mare who's next in line for one of the two thrones of Equestria, but she doesn't have any actual authority unless one of the Queens (or both) are unable to fulfill their royal duties. This whole business of everyone being a Princess, even though they're clearly not on the same footing, power-wise is very confusing and makes for poor writing.

MY PROPOSED Plot for season 5 episode: Silver Spoon meets Spike at some form of CMC-related event (I do not believe he has met Diamond Tiara or SS?) and gets a crush on him (being as they are somewhere approaching the same age and the school-age colts are a sad lot). Spike, as always, is oblivious. SS splits off from being DT's crony to enlist the help of the CMC to get him to notice her. The CMC once again try their hooves at matchmaking: Scootaloo tries to get SS to do something 120% awesome to impress Spike (fails), Apple Bloom tries to give her lessons in being less bitchy (thereby revealing that she is not actually mean underneath), and Sweetie Belle does her best to make SS more Rarity-ish via makeover and assumed accent (with moderate but entertaining success). Spike ends up noticing her and either A.) shows an interest in her (destroying the status quo, leaving DT alone and open for a character episode, and potentially curbing Sparity shippers) or B.) (more likely) is as kind as he can be but says he's still 100% Rarity; which devastates SS and makes her return to DT (Status quo is god).

Honestly if I had it my way, I'd just write Spike out of the show, maybe his real parents come to pick him up or whatever and just have him leave. If any male character that need to be develop, it'd be Big Mac, at least the staff doesn't treat him as a butt monkey.

I'm not sure how to feel about Silver Spoon TBH. I mean she's a bitch to the CMC, but at the same time she's clearly a hanger on for Diamond Tiara, maybe if she got away from DT, she'd turn into a different pony.
