I'm not saying she is evil, but.... she seems like the only one of the mane six that has to actively try to be good or embody her element. She's actually all the more admirable, because she has to put in an effort to do what others do naturally, and she has a depth generally absent with the other mane characters. From TV Tropes:

Jerk with a Heart of Gold: More like "Heart of Gold with occasional Jerk tendencies." She's primarily nice, but she let her greed derail an attempt to speak with a dragon, nearly ruined Twilight's slumber party and stole the spotlight from Rainbow Dash during the Best Young Flyers competition.
Hidden Depths: In the tie-in comics, the Nightmare Forces choose her as the easiest of the Mane Six to break emotionally and transform into a second Nightmare Moon. The Nightmare Forces lampshade that Fluttershy seemed an easy target, but Nightmare Moon implies that Rarity has crippling self-esteem issues over someone more talented than her outdoing her and replacing her in the circle of friends
