I don't really understand animosity toward Pinkie. Granted, in "Filli Vanilli," she was part of the problem, not part of the solution, but all she ever wants is for others to be happy. How can you not like that?

That's glossing over the issue. Many don't like Pinkie Pie because of her relegation as the show's stereotypical idiot

Many reasons.
1. I get annoyed easily.
2. I find to like things calm
3. I'm an intellect. I like maturity.
4. She has the most annoying voice.
5. I have not yet seen an episode to portray her in good light.
6. Others? Happy? Screw that. In real life no one gives a crap who you are.

Oh, I thought you meant the literary theme.

Ximea wrote:I don't really understand animosity toward Pinkie. Granted, in "Filli Vanilli," she was part of the problem, not part of the solution, but all she ever wants is for others to be happy. How can you not like that?

Because Pinkie actively tries to do that for everypony, and as we've seen in "A Friend in Deed", some just aren't fond of having someone trying to make them happy.

And sometimes, randomness and almost naive enthusiasm isn't welcome everywhere.

Kind of the same here, although that only seems to happen when she's not in the focus of an episode in this season.

I hope to Celestia that we see no more of idiot Pinkie in Season 4, and more of the delightfully absent-minded eccentric but secretly brilliant Pinkie that we had in Seasons 1-2. "Maud Pie" has considerably more of the later fortunately.

In my opinion, when she's written well, she's not exactly a stereotypical idiot - she's just highly idiosyncratic. I refer you to "Swarm of the Century," wherein she handled the parasprite swarm but her efforts were initially disregarded as typical Pinkie weirdness.

The Time Alliance wrote:Many reasons.

Fair enough.
The Time Alliance wrote: 3. I'm an intellect. I like maturity.

Those of you who've known me for a while will know that my intellect is not a matter of dispute. I still quite like Pinkie Pie.
The Time Alliance wrote:4. She has the most annoying voice.
An opinion which I do not share, but I'll cede you the point if her voice bothers you.
The Time Alliance wrote:5. I have not yet seen an episode to portray her in good light.
She saved the day in Swarm of the Century, and while she caused no small degree of irritation in A Friend in Deed, she ultimately reunited someone with his lost love.
The Time Alliance wrote:6. Others? Happy? Screw that. In real life no one gives a crap who you are.
My understanding is that between 1% and 2% of people genuinely have no concern for the feelings of others. We call these people sociopaths, and the word itself implies that this is a pathology - a disease, for lack of a better term. The very existence of things like blood drives and charities suggest that some people actually do have concern for the feelings of others.
Frenequesta wrote:Because Pinkie actively tries to do that for everypony, and as we've seen in "A Friend in Deed", some just aren't fond of having someone trying to make them happy.

I will grant you the point about taking an active role in someone else's happiness not always being welcome. However, in my opinion, when Pinkie is written well, she's not so much random as she is lateral to conventional modes of thought. My opinion is also that naive enthusiasm is usually a good thing.

Perhaps, but it's not like we can dismiss her non-well-written actions as not part of her.

She saved the day in Swarm of the Century...

On the other hoof, you would think that she would have more adequately explained to the others why she needed all those musical instruments. She didn't even try to make a good case of herself, which presumably is contemptuous.

No, but we can still ascribe them to unconventional thinking rather than true randomness.

I wonder whether British Rainbow Dash would have an English or a Scottish accent. On second thought, she'd probably have a Northern Irish accent. Liam Neeson is from Northern Ireland, and Liam Neeson is fucking awesome, like Rainbow Dash.
