They were using White Scars rules. Their army was:
Captain in Gravis armour
10 Primaris
10 Primaris with Stalker Boltrifles
6 Aggressors with Boltstorm
6 Aggressors with Flamestorm (they wiped out one of my Boy mobs in overwatch entirely, then my Warboss charged in, took a few wounds from overwatch but was out of range of most of the unit, killed half the unit and then died to the power fists. Then they annihilated my other Boy Mob in their shooting phase, lost one to my Grots shooting at them from the back of my Battlewagon, flamed my Waaagh! Banner down to 1 wound then charged him... and he killed one in overwatch and the other in combat. I was damn lucky)

I ended the game with a Waaagh! Banner on 1 wound, 11 Gretchin, 3 Lootas and a Blitza-Bomma on half wounds with no more bombs. He still had an intact unit of Primaris and one left from the Stalker unit, but they were both so far back that I got all the objectives (my Gretchin were cowering around one and my Lootas holding another)

None of the Boyz have realised it, but inside is just a Gretchin with a voice modulator. Whenever the Deff Dread gets destroyed, he's teleported back to the workshop by the mini Shokk Attack Gun on the top of the walker, where he can get into a new one and try again. :D

He also takes the titles of those he defeats in battle, so he is Warlord Ugerekka, Da Great Destroya, Da Immortul, Captain of the Fulminators 5th Company, Alpharius, Brother-Librarian-Dreadnought.

Haven't settled on it yet, but maybe if he doesn't get any personal victories he decides to take the army victory one instead. I've been writing short stories for all of the battles (a friend suggested I should) so I'll see in that - for example, Ugerekka took the title from the Primaris Captain despite the fact I didn't even use him in that battle, because in the story I wrote he showed up at the end to finish off the already dying captain (I had to come up with a reason why the Primaris retreated and "lost" despite having a significant advantage in models when the game ended)

I've started planning my next army, a Necron dynasty called the Nekhet who are honourable warriors whose interpretation of the Silent King's orders to get new biological bodies for the Necrons is to protect biological creatures, so they'll randomly show up to save people (usually Tau, Eldar or humans, since they're not particularly interested in becoming Orks or 'Nids). I was thinking of going with silver and yellow as the main colours (yellow crests and shoulders) but haven't decided yet. Here's the list I'm planning at the moment:

2000pts Vanguard Detachment
Dynasty: Custom
Dynastic Code: Awakened By Murder
Dynastic Heirlooms: 1 Extra Artefact

HQ:
Thutikh - Overlord 130pts
Warscythe (Artefact: Voidreaper), Resurrection Orb, Warlord.
Warlord trait: Honourable Combatant

Azuph - Lord 119pts
Warscythe, Resurrection Orb, Artefact: Sempiternal Weave

Elites:
5x Lychguard 170pts
Hyperphase Swords and Dispersion Shields

10x Lychguard 340pts
Hyperphase Swords and Dispersion Shields

10x Lychguard 300pts
Warscythes

10x Lychguard 300pts
Warscythes

10x Triarch Praetorians 320pts
Voidblades and Particle Casters

10x Triarch Praetorians 320pts
Rods of Covenant

Maybe crazy and certainly not meta, but should be fun. Money's very tight though, so I won't be starting it for a few months at least. Fortunately, it'll cost less than half what my Orks did, only around £250 for the full 200pts.

I love the helmet, and of course it lets you pull a Trazyn and go "nope, that wasn't actually him, he's actually over here in this random squad"

And then the riots started. Later it turned out that the corruption of Chaos was ominously present, so measures were taken. After all was said, done and purged, the Inquisitors all enjoyed a nice, cold Dr. Pepper.

That's why I so love Gaun't Ghosts series, too. It's good to read about Primarchs and the Big E, but reading about common human lives in the Imperium is much more interesting to me.

These and other books are also largely redeeming Inquisitors, as it clearly shows how nasty work it is. Sure, you're technically the most free of the Humans, you visit and see even more than average Space Marine: but you see corruption of Chaos even on the most beautiful and 'safe' planets, on which 99,999+% of population has no idea, for example, about Slaneesh cult in multiple hives, planning demon infestation.

I just wish 40k wasn't so overpriced or that GW wasn't so retarded. 8th edition a shit for dumbing things down and making some units suck. I especially won't forgive GW for nerfing the deathstrike.

Have you read the Shira Calpurnia books? They're great and they're getting rereleased soon.

I've found games more fun with 8th than with the preceding 5 editions personally. Haven't yet used my Guard in 8th though, so I've yet to try out my Deathstrike, but I love the fact that my Vostroyan Armoured Regiment gets 6" extra range to all their rapid fire and heavy weapons (especially good for my Hellhounds and Demolishers)

I have them already, same as the series about Big E as I mentioned.
Still, Ghosts and Eisenhorn remain my favourites.

Because Abnett is damn awesome writer.

Agreed :)
I've had the pleasure of speaking to him on a couple of occasions, though due to my social anxiety plucking up the courage to do so meant I didn't say much.

Personally though my favourite Black Library novel is Scars by Chris Wraight, partly because he took what was the least-known Legion and (in my opinion) made them the most interesting and cool, but also because as a historian I have to respect how he didn't take the easy route of just making them "Space Mongols" and instead took cues from a number of Asiatic cultures to create a blend that felt familiar yet unique.
