As I recall, it was because they were too close to Horus, since Horus led the Raven Guard until Corax was found, and then when Corax started taking their organisation and tactics in his own direction Horus got all snitty and when it became clear Corax wasn't going to do things his way he started ordering the Raven Guard into horrendous combat situations trying to get them brutally killed out of spite, and he was backed up in this by Perturabo. Corax and Perty came to blows, broken up by Russ.

Kind of makes you think that if more people had listened to Corax, they might have seen the Heresy coming.

Huh, didnt know that.

It is a shame, Corax would have been in the best position to see the Heresy coming, and he didn't really make any wrong decisions during it - he tried to assassinate a traitor primarch but retreated when the situation got too dangerous, he got a large portion of his legion out of the Dropsite massacre successfully, bogged down the Traitors hunting them giving the rest of the imperium some grace period, managed to escape the planet and then the enemy-filled system, returned to Terra and managed to persuade the Emperor to help him restore his legion's numbers, made significant advances on the technological front for the Loyalist side based on their direct experience against the Traitors, decided to do what his legion does best with hit-and-run tactics rather than squatting in Terra cluttering up the place, caused substantial damage to the Traitors, and managed to save the Space Wolves. He didn't really make any mistakes.

However, his sons got butchered, his attempt to rebuild his legion was sabotaged horribly beyond repair, his legion was filled with savage tortured monsters he couldn't afford to reject, the guerrilla war cost them so badly they were not a viable force for the Siege of Terra, and afterwards he had to put down all of said monsters - who he had created and considered his sons just as much as the other Raven Guard, if not more.

No wonder the poor guy was so depressed.

I'm half-convinced Horus chose Istvaan as the place to launch his betrayal because it was originally made compliant by the Raven Guard, but I'm not sure how far the canon supports that.

Istvaan III was brought into compliance by the Raven Guard according to the Lexicanum wiki.

I know, what I'm unsure on is whether Horus had the Istvaan Warsinger uprising staged deliberately to use as the site for his treachery, or whether it happened on its own and that made it suitable for Horus to use.

I think its hinted at that the governor had some chaotic influence which was boosting him a little when he fought in the battle, so i would assume that the chaos gods orchestrated it so Horus could use it as part of his plan to cripple the loyalists early on and purge his own forces of those he could not rely on. So he might have known what was going on with it prior to it actually happening.

When they give the Orks a proper leader, I think it'd be awesome and fit great if they made it the most powerful character in the game. I just think it'd work so well thematically if you couldn't defeat it in a one-on-one fight, and would have to focus multiple units on it. Give it the game balance of a small Titan rather than a character.

I've been seeing rumors that Ghaz is gonna become a prime ork...soooo your idea may become true.

Thoughts on Age of Sigmar? I've been getting more interested in Fantasy lately but I've heard a lot of hate towards AoS.

Honestly have paid like no attention it in the slightest other than a bit of general reading of how it went down a good while ago.

I guess, meh?

I've got nothing against people picking it up and enjoying it, I hear it has made some vast improvements and has become quite a fun game. However, I'm a dwarf at heart, and thus am extremely bitter and hold onto grudges as stubbornly as is possible, so I'm still hung up on them getting rid of Fantasy.

Doesn't help that my main army (by far, I was up to 10,000pts) was Tomb Kings, which got scrapped. Whenever I try to make an AoS list with any of my old Fantasy armies, I get way too annoyed at the new names for things and how limiting the options are (I had lots of conversions to make use of magic items and wargear options, but AoS only supplies rules for things that have models, so for example my Chaos Sorcerer on Palanquin of Nurgle is illegal)

I haven't bought a single AoS model since it came out.
But as I said, that's my bitterness talking, I know a lot of people at my local store love AoS so if you like the look of it give it a try.

Not a fan of the shift in aesthetics and narrative the setting has taken since WHBF. Too High Fantasy, too WoW.

Also, I like the Rank and File system better than the Skirmish one.

Sis-in-law and her husband play.

The system is decent and plays faster than the old one, plus they're technically bringing back Fantasy by having Warhammer Legends for AoS.

I think whichever loyalist Primarch comes back next should have to take on either the Word Bearers or the Iron Warriors. On the one hand i'm curious what Perturabo looks like now as a Daemon Primarch, on the other Lorgar would finally get off his ass and do something, and give Guilliman another chance to kick his ass for Calth.

Well, at the start of the Heresy at least - read Aurelian to see how badass he was capable of becoming.
He brutalised a Daemon-possessed Fulgrim in front of the other Traitor primarchs, then intimidated HORUS into backing off when he tried to calm him down.

It is actually reflected pretty well in the Forge World stats - normal Lorgar, indeed, loses to pretty much all his brothers, but Lorgar Ascendant using his psychic powers trashes most of them and gives Horus a run for his money.
