Ok, is there a reason Cadian helmets look like this? Cause it seems like it'd just make hearing harder.

Cadians are pretty much 40k's "generic Western sci-fi trooper dudes". I guess they redesigned the old helmets to make them look a tad more unique.

Guard used to be my main army way back when, so I'm familiar with what the Cadian's are, their helmets just stump me. The sides range in art from "hinders hearing" to "have fun listening to your own ear canal"

Is it cause they didn't want to model so many ears and had to come up with a cover?

Helmets that completely cover the ears do exist in Real Life, the Russian military seems to be particulary fond of them:

I guess a possible advantage is that you can build radio equipment and the like directly into the helmet.

If Russian soldiers already wear Cadian helmets, does that make Putin the Emperor of Mankind?

Some people on this forum would have you believe so, in any case.

In other news, I recentlydecided to to enlargen my Imperial Guard (currently consisting of Valhallans and Catachans) by adding a Praetorian Guard detachement (using the Mordian Regimental doctrines), using these model ranges:

I already bought this jolly old chap as Warlord Company Commander:

I’ve been trying to get into Dystopian Wars/Legions (FSA) but, alas, I don’t think there are that many people who play it around my parts.
However I could see that guy easily fitting in as a Praetorian commander.

You will probably not find players in the future either, now that Spartan Games has gone bankrupt.

It is rather unfortunate that Dystopian Legions is using 32 rather than 28 mm. I think it is ok if the supreme commander is a bit larger-than-average, but mixing regular Infatry troops looks a bit odd. Shame, because the Dystopian Legions range would make for absolutely fantastic Imperial Guard.

I prefer the older metal Cadians, never been a fan of the plastics even when they first came out.

Oh and have a look at either of these for your Praetorians.

Victoria Miniatures makes some nice conversion bits - think I'm gonna get some of those Hunting Lances for my Rough Riders - but the whole squads are waaaay to expensive.

I like the Gatling Gun from Kirton Games. Makes a nice Heavy-Bolter-stand in.

They both look too... nothing.

They don't look like they belong anywhere, maybe it's just a me thing (it probably is) but I've always felt like the other Army's felt like they belonged. Catachan, Steel Legion, Kreig, Praetorians, Chem Dogs, Vostroyan, Valhallan, etc. felt like they had substance to them. Cadian's just feel like models and that's it.
