Also they mentioned dreadnoughts, how do you get dreadnoughts without a guy getting brutally shot up to be put in the dreadnought?

Would have preferred them saying that the mechanicus had simply made some new armor and weapons that were slowly being rolled out.

Well, aside from missing out on some cool new models and tactical options for your army, then that’s totally cool. You certainly don’t have to include Primaris Space Marines in your Space Marines army. Though when you see the Primaris Redemptor Dreadnought, you’ll want to. Primaris Dreadnought? Did I write that…? Nah. Moving on.

Not sure how I feel about all this.

On the one hand the models look cool, and I'm sure crunch wise they will be interesting to play. On the other it bothers me fluff wise, and it seams like they are just making better space marines to sell more models.

Yeah, the fluff is hamfisted and this is GW we're talking about but I actually think this is more of their attempt at introducing true scale marines without invalidating every single marine army out there in one fell swoop. Whether you think the reason for that is because it's silly that marines and gueardsmen are of comparable size on the tabletop or because people were making money off of truescale conversions isup to interpretation. Not sure how to feel about these - as you say they look cool but I kinda feel they invalidate my marines anyway. It'd be pretty difficult to use them alongside my current forces especially since mine are the really old, really small variety.

There erased two entire legions and primarchs from all recorded history. Pretty sure skipping an armor number is a cake-walk for them.

Not to mention based on their responses I'd be willing to bet Mark IX has not been skipped, it just hasn't been revealed yet.

Yeah. Mark IX might be some other new type they've alluded to (or it's a specialist armour for specialist marines).

Rage is a strong word, at least for the 40klore subreddit. I'm going through it now and rage seems to be less prelevant than, at worst, disappointment with the idea.

Anyhows, the new 40K skirmish game Shadow War has gotten me piqued as well as the steampunk sky pirate dwarfs for AoS.

They would also have to rescale the terminators, devastators, assault marines, veterans, etc.

Yeah. Plus, they can be made from normal recruits and current Space Marine chapters can make them.

I think this makes it more likely Primaris Marines will be standard, since it lets them still use current characters and I imagine will mollify the fan base more that normal Marines are possibly being replaced.

It isn't the same degree of big middle finger Stormcast Eternals gave to normal mortal armies with essentially forcing them into the sidelines.
