Ah, this one. It is indeed wonderful. Are you in the Middlehammer or Oldhammer Community groups on facebook by any chance? This got posted again there too a few days ago.

Out of curiosity, what is Middlehammer? As far as I'm aware Oldhammer is just 8th edition, right?

Depends on who you ask really. It's a subset of Oldhammer. Some people count all of WFB as Oldhammer since it's out of print, some people only earlier editions (One group even considers only 3rd edition specifically to be Oldhammer). I'd say to most people Oldhammer is the period of warhammer they're most nostalgic about - to me Oldhamner is mostly 6th ed warhammer and 4th ed 40k or earlier, though I'm not too strict about it). Where Middlehammer comes to picture is the Oldhammer facebook group (offshoot of the oldhammer forums). It's more relaxed now (operating on principle of "if you think it's oldhammer it's fine"), but there used to be a sizeable minority (with large over representation among the admins) who were much stricter in their definition (most of the didn't consider anything post 1992 to be oldhammer) abd would constantlt bitch and complain to and about people posting stuff that was too new for their tastes ("1998? Clearly more of a middlehammer mini. Harumph. "). They've split into their own group since then, but before they did some members set up another group for old OOP stuff that was too "new" for the grognards. The group doesn't define middlehammer but I'd say among people who bother to differentiate between oldhammer and middlehammer (I don't) middlehammer would be from somewhere between 1993-1995 to 2003-2006ish.

Not a member of any of those, but I happen to be in a few BattleTech communities on FB. It was mentioned in one of those, because min/maxing can be found in all games.

I was reading a bit of lore about Imperial Guard regiments and I came across something interesting. Why didn't the Inquisition try to purge Mordia like they did with Armageddon?

The Inquisition is a bit erratic when it comes to who they kill for discovering Chaos or not. I want to say they spared Morida due to Mordia's proximity to the the Eye of Terror as its one of the planets close enough to the eye of terror to back up Cadia during the Black Crusades before Cadia went boom so they wouldn't be so keen as to remove a world of reinforcements for a key system like they don't clean up Cadia after every black crusade. Armageddon didn't have such luck as it was in the Segmentum solar meaning space wise its close to Terra as its in the same geographic region so if Armageddon fell to Chaos the fleet could have turned its sights on Terra. Another big feature fact that when chaos manifested itself on Armaggedon, Angron one of the demon Primarchs appeared which the Imperium doesn't want anyone to know that the traitor legion Primarchs are alive and worse immortal beings in service to the enemy and this is such high priorty secret in the inquisition Fenris got its native population cleaned off world because of Magnus appearing.

GW has been pretty inconsistent about this wole "Chaos exposure" thing from the start, even in the 2nd Edition. In one background text, the Inquisition systematically kills all civilians/Imperial Guard and mindwipes all Space Marines who have witnessed Daemons or Chaos Space Marines. In the other, you see Imperial Guard and Space Marine veterans of former demon/Chaos incursions chatting about it and the existence of Chaos is treated more or less as common knowledge.

Personally, I think the whole "cover up the existence of demons at all consts" is a bit of a plothole, because it doesn't really fit the way the Imperium is portrayed. I mean, they're a totalitarian, theocratic dictatorship, preaching about how the faithful have to stay vigilant against the dark temptations lurking behind every corner etc, and they are pretty liberal about portraying said dark forces in their statues, iconography and the like. But the fact that the forces of sin and corruption they constantly and openly preach about actually do exist is somehow a state secret?

This whole "knowledge supression" thing works far better with the Tau in my opinion, as the existence of Chaos is indeed anathema to pretty much everything the Higher Good and their society is about.

I suppose you could handwave the random application beign down to the different factions and beliefs at work within the inquisition and the decision being made by the senior inquisitor(s) on hand at the time. Combine the fact the Inquisition has a tendency to support whatever decision was made at the time regardless of how other Inquisitors may feel about it and the inconsistancies make more sense as does the inflexible response of the Inquisition as a whole when one of thier decisions is questioned.

I'd recommend an ink wash on the silver instead... Perhaps on the entire model even. Just a suggestion mind you.

Yup starting with a squad or two and playing small skirmishes with mates is the best way to start it let's you get several fun games in during a session and allows you try different things to see what suits (splitting a starter set with an m8 and swapping around the small forces is often really useful).

Remember warhammer type stuff is as much of a time sink as it is a money pit once you start getting into painting and modelling.

The Fantasy Flight ones are quite good. And the Black Library books are - in my opinion - really, really good. Lots of fluff. Especially the Horus Heresy series. Tasty business. :)

You could also look into Kill Team. The box is reasonably priced, and comes with the rule book and the info needed to use the included models so you could hold off on buying the codex if you are low on funds.

Fantasy Flight has lost the RPG licence, plus they were bad at keeping books in print which meant the books costing more than some models on ebay.

There are some good fabmade conversions for other RPG systems out there.

Why get it for moneys when you can get it for free? It may not be "supported", but that doesn't mean you can't play it. It's not Warhammer Online where they shut down the servers.
