Mantic has released an official list for ratkin and The Herd so Skaven and Beastmen players can run their WHFB armies in KoW. More GW racial integration lists are on the way, too.

As long as they get the scaling right (as well as everything else) then it could be pretty good. I'll need to find the article again, but basically 40K ships are freaking massive compared to the puny ships of sci-fi films etc.

Just another reason to get into KoW. The Emperor bless Mantic, for they are the true believers and continue his light in spite of the Daemon infested warp entity that is GW.

Depends on which range, what you want aesthetically, and whether you value the ability to buy a lot more troops for a given price point. GW is not exactly immune to criticism, and Mantic has awesome undead models. The Basileans are a bit odd, but you are explicitly encouraged to also use models from other companies so you can use Roman legions or Aztec warriors in a Kingdoms of men army. Skip the magic users for your army list and it can even be a lightweight historical wargaming system.

Well, getting 2 lasrifle sections and a quad mortar from the solar auxilia. New game place is really chill, people want to fight 30k vs 40k, and solar auxilia is everything I want the guard to be and more.

Battlefleet Gothic Armada gameplay trailer, looks pretty neat at its current state, hope its like this at release, its rare you get a good Warhammer good. Most are pretty meh or crap.

Well, Orks or Space Marines are fairly simple. In a troop slot you can designate a squad leader and give upgrades depending on size or unit type. An IG player was trying to explain how each troop choice could include a command squad and several troop squads that were somehow separate but together, along with their heavy weapon teams that counted as two bodies but one wound. Was I misunderstanding, or is it that convoluted?

Every "Troop Choice" for an Imperial Guard army consists of a number of squads. You always need an HQ squad and two Infantry Squads. In addition to that, you may add other squads such as more Infantry or Special / Heavy squads. Together they count as a single choice.

The heavy weapon team is simply two Guardsmen and a heavy weapon mounted on a single large base with two wounds and two attacks.

I need to get into Warhammer more. Anyone have some recommended readings? (I also wont be getting figurines because I can't paint and I have no friends).

Well if 40k the Eisenhorn series is pretty great.

Yeah Eisenhorn is a good read.

Gaunts Ghosts are also another great read, especially if you are a fan of the regular grunts and their stories, in this particular case constantly getting shit on by both their superiors and their enemies and thrown into all sorts of screwed up campaigns and battles.

Ciaphas Cain HERO OF THE IMPERIUM, is also another good one and has some good humour, its about an imperial commissar who really does not want to fight but gets constantly thrown into these situations where he ends up being a hero to people trying to survive.
