So been watching some of the 40K Theories videos on Youtube about the 'nids.

Thought struck me, there is anything in the 40K fluff about Humans travelling beyond the Milky Way before the Dark Age of Technology?

In a way I think there sort of is. If I'm not mistaken there's a piece of lore somewhere with a Dark Age ship that is capable of leaving the Milky Way.

Of course it's not time. It's never time, not on its own. You make it time. If you're under fire in the no-man's land of WW1, you start digging a foxhole even if the ideal time would be when you *aren't* being bombarded, because once you wait for it to be 'time', other situations will need your attention, assuming you survive that long. If the fields aren't furrowed, plow them. If the iron is not hot, make it so. If society is not ready, change it.

I require the context for this. It sounds like a lady Inquisitor caught two Guardswomen making out and has discovered something about herself in the process.

Slaanesh approves?

Another review.

Damnit, he's done it to another one, and in quite the shocking way too. WHY!?!?!??? (Answer: Because we cared). For those who can't guess what I mean, you clearly haven't read enough Gaunt's Ghosts. Changing the subject, it is still Abnett's superb style but feels very much like the middle-book it is - dealing with the events of Salvations Reach and setting up for events in Anarch (ones I am greatly anticipating) and as a result doesn't feel like it has its own story to the extent you'd expect (with the exception of one major change). The majority of the book would seem slow, with all the major action scenes crammed in the beginning and the end, but attempts to compensate for this by coming in the form of a series of hammerblow shocks, some of which were satisfying (FINALLY, Gaunt gets some damned respect!), some of which were predictable and some of which were worrying, and you don't get much time to recover between them. Plus, some foreshadowing in Salvation's Reach (that I guessed correctly, yay me) gets built on in a way with disturbing implications. There's an interesting disparity in the book - it half feels like nothing really happens, as I eluded to earlier, but also massively shakes up the course of the series in a truly astonishing way. I just wish there'd been more time for the characters to react to everything.
Overall, not the best Gaunt's Ghosts book, but that's hardly a low bar. A damn good read.

EDIT: Oh, it is annoying that apparently there was a short story anthology I missed though, so there's a bunch of stuff referenced in it that I haven't yet read.

For those not interested, here're my joke theories on current loyalist primarch activities:
Lion El'Johnson - Peacefully running his homosexual bar Indisposed in the Rock.
Jaghatai Khan - I just picture some Dire Avengers stopping at some railway-light-style things at a crossroads in the Webway with barriers dropping and a Dark Eldar convoy passing through, then getting utterly shredded in an instant by what looks like a whirlwind coming the other way, then a few seconds later the barrier raises and the Dire Avengers just carry on because it has become so routine after 10,000 years.
Leman Russ - Getting a warpmail letter from Magnus with a picture of the Crimson King relaxing in a deckchair on the hellscape that Fenris has become with his feet resting on a dead wolf.
Rogal Dorn - Missing his Imperial Fists and his Imperial Fist.
Sanguinius - All in red and oh so dead.
Ferrus Manus - Just as dead and with less head.
Guilliman - Trying to swap life-support stories with his dad, and failing.
Vulkan - Buried deep on Armageddon (Damnit GW, when will you start incorporating Black Library into your planning, Orktober would have been the perfect time for a Beast Ghazghkull vs Vulkan vs Angron release)
Corvus Corax - He's a goddamn Anti-Daemon Primarch. The reason he's not been up to much lately is probably because one of the armour-piercing-anti-Daemon-crows he can turn himself into got lost on a Daemon world and he can't reform without it so he's stuck with a whole bunch of bird brains.

So not really in a position to play or even build an army for 40K despite being a long-term Imperial Guard fan/player.

Instead I'm seriously considering just doing a fluff army, for the likes of fan fiction and RPs. Have a few ideas, but having trouble deciding which one.

1. Possibly a Rogue Trader army, hailing from either the Koronus Expanse or near the Ghoul Stars.

2. A Death Korps style army from near the Ghoul Stars.

3. LRDG style army from either the Koronus Expanse or near the Sabbat Worlds.
