Indeed it is, but the look on the other players face is priceless, and it does get owned by one lucky Lascannon that rolls high.

Also I generally let the other player know I'm running escalation, but given a S10AP1 10" blast with no cover allowed kinda wrecks most armies.

Idk, having run 750 PT tau against a Stormlord, it's very entertaining, you can really screw with an enemy, especially with 3 pairs of TL fusion blasters

Also, can you run 3 Fusion Blasters on an XV-8? Then could I get 2 FBs with one twin linked

Competetive Tau lists aren't fun to play against, either.

Eh, having boycotted Riptides, I feel like they're pretty balanced, though I feel there should be a good weapon to use against crisis suits.

Btw, I've determined that is the best use of Stormtroopers, hot-shot hard counters XV-8s

Yep. The FAQ basically says the same, so you can have one and a twin linked, or you can have three but you can't fire one.

Also, someone please tell me that my Tau buff commander either can't join infantry or can't use the CaCN and MSSS on space marines? Otherwise, I may be sorely tempted to run T-L ignores cover devastators.

Just noticed the riptides thing as well, as long as you have at least one shielded MD you can stick in a commander and have R72" S8 AP2 heavy 1 large blast twin-linked ignores cover, which will be the ruination of many a space marine. Alternatively, you can go for devastators and have R36" S7 AP2 heavy 4 blast twin-linked ignores cover. Of course, then you have either the fusion blasters and missile pods or moar boltars.

Screw it, he's going with the riptide.

Hrrm... the wording of "Units that always consist of a single model" makes me wonder slightly. Does this mean "Units which, for the duration of that game, consist of a single model" or "Units which, in any game, can only ever consist of a single model"? I agree that your explanation sounds a little more likely...

Not that it matters, because I want my T6 4++ and moar missiles, but...

but with thous point you could shove something even cheesier into the list. I wish that they would have given us a none tau HQ

I could be running three tides or nine crises and nine broadsides, but I feel that this is better for everyone. I get more funnies and my opponent gets a break from competitive tau lists.

It's out!

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catal ... od2430050a

Waaaiit.... 2 units, a full codex, $50? What the fuck- a 72-page book for $50? A whole army with only two new units? I was thinking about trying a full stormtrooper army with proxy Cadians, but this is slightly crazy.

That's about what most of the other Army Books/Codices are going for.

It's funny, really. £30 is about what a hardcover army book of the other war game I play costs, but that has got 192 pages and more than twenty army lists. As well as being in full colour and having painting guides and a bit of stuff about each army list.

Shows how much people are willing to pay for GW's stuff.

Albeit, in their defence, unlike Flames of War, GW doesn't have nearly as many schoolboy errors when it comes to spelling, grammar and the apparent inability to proof read or even run their text through MSWord...

Sorry, just finding it hard to get over the fact that a single IG Heavy Weapons team is now £10 when you used to be able to get an entire squad for £15.

Read me!

Up-to-the minute coverage of the Tempestus... I've been waiting a long time for plastic Stormtroopers.

- The hardbound codex is being sold through GW-website only, which means that my local FLGS is going to hate me if I play with it. :( There's been a lot of ruckus with gaming stores not allowing the online-only codex's and stuff, because it's GW trying to undercut them. Buyer beware!

- Includes three new units- Scions, Scion command squads, and the Taurox
- Scions can take a lot of heavy weapons, and can only deep strike when being fielded as a full army
- Scion Command Squads are impressively badass. You can take 4 heavy weapons (like meltas, plasma guns, etc.), and they can issue orders. WOW.
- The Taurox is as fragile as ever, and doesn't have particularly good armor. But it is a transport with some impressive weaponry.

- The full Tempestus army includes Scions, Scion Command Squads, the Taurox, Chimeras, Valkyries, Commissars (questionable, why would you need Commissars? They exist to keep blob squads from deserting, and the Tempestus don't have blob squads.) Also remember, some FLGS might not like/allow Tempestus armies as it's GW-website-only.

- No Scion Heavy Weapons Teams? Nothing stronger than a Melta or Missile Launcher? Tank and superheavy-blasting is looking like the weakness of this new force. If they become popular and you fight them, just bring your heaviest vehicles and roll the fuckers over.

My Rating: C
While a fantastic concept at the start, Games Workshop has missed the ball somewhat on their latest army. An army with only three new units seems sparse, and it's already being talked about as a day-one-DLC for the new Imperial Guard.

While roaming around with small squads of Stormtroopers blasting shit seems like a fun idea... the perfect storm of overpriced products, a lack of sufficient new units to fill up and balance out a codex, and the fact that the codex is being sold online-only ensures that the Tempestus are a forgettable army. I can forgive the controversial new Taurox, what I can't forgive is the very concept of only releasing three new units and calling it a whole army.

You were certainly able to get twenty infantrymen for that much.

It's how I built my infantry company.
