Was looking at Melta Vets riding around in a Chimera as a fast response unit,.

Also planning on going a bit fluffy with the army, ie use Thunderbolt flyers instead of tanks due to the regiment's homeworld having aircraft as the main mode of transport because of terrain, etc.

Air cav has potential to be cool.

"Why is self-control, autonomy, such a threat to authority? Because the person who controls himself, who is his own master, has no need for an authority to be his master. This, then, renders authority unemployed. What is he to do if he cannot control others? To be sure, he could mind his own business. But that is a fatuous answer, for those who are satisfied to mind their own business do not aspire to become authorities." ~ Thomas Szasz

Not really looking to go Air Cav, really more of a RAF Regiment based force.

Sounds cool. You going to go full out with calling your Company a Squadron etc? And do you have a time period in mind to model on? Like modern or in the past where they had Light Armour or Armoured Car Squadrons.

Not sure.

Was planning on going with Salamander Scouts filling out my Fast Attack choices, basically representing 'motorized' patrols. Heavy Support would probably be Hydras and aircraft.

Found a really nice trick for making your own track guards on a Chimera.

Image

That's plastic strapping, the kind you can find on a lot of packages. Cut to desired length, score it wherever it needs to bend, and glue it into position.

Probably going to use that on my Chimera, once it arrives anyway.

I'm not sure which End Times exactly you're referring to but it doesn't matter, there's the End Times and then there's the equally worrisome Time of Ending.

Like, is there any record of the fucking Greenskins actually defeating their foes decisively? Making a final push against them?

I can't fucking find any.

The Necrons and C'tan got sick of wasting energy fighting the Orks, so they went to bed. The next best challengeafter them, the Old Ones, ended up getting killed off by metaphysical side effects of the previous war. Then there was a whole lot of nothing of note happening, despite Orks likely possessing the potential to out-breed any major Eldar or Human civilization all the way up to M41.

But have they ever actually been an existential threat? Fuck, no. Orks love fighting. You decisively kill your foe, there's no more fighting to be had. There's a reason why Armageddon is always a massive clusterfuck yet always seems able to hold out against them?

"Not a threat? They slaughter entire planetary populations" - Yes, because that pisses of the local authorities to such a degree that they call in reinforcements. In their own fucked up way, the Orks aren't even that stupid. Their priorities are just really, really blue and orange.

Now, if Chaos was less insidious and corrupting and more direct combat oriented, like if Khorne was in charge of it all, then I guarantee you that Cadia would be guarded by untold billions of Orks, not Guardsmen. But Chaos is infiltrate-y.
