I was not the one to purchase it. Hence why I specifically wrote "The PS3 in my house" rather than "my PS3."

Pretty sure I heard Sony is working on a PS2 and PS3 game emulation for the PS4.

Shouldn't that necessitate the need for emulation? if anything, PC gamers regardless will be getting the last laugh as they will be playing your exclusives when you cannot 40 years from now.

Like we'll care about them in 40 years, anyway.

I mean, we MIGHT, but I doubt I will even care about my The Last of Us as much by then. At that point it'll just be something to display on my shelf in my game collection.

It's also self-defeating to argue exclusive games as a benefit of consoles. The games aren't exclusive because of a technological prerequisite that requires the capabilities of a console, but rather because of the demand of the host company to have a game to be exclusive as a desirable feature that sells, meaning that any console exclusive becomes little more than an advertisement.

But of course PC exclusives are the greatest thing on Earth, and totally don't serve the exact same purpose at times.

Besides, I have no vested interest in playing PS3 games myself, I am just always excited to see any progress made in PC gaming.

Heavy Rain, The Last of Us, Journey, there are a lot of good exclusives.

Torisakia wrote:My PC takes 10 minutes to get to the desktop.

I'm not certain mine doesn't take this long sometimes, either. It's terrible. Partly why I forget to ever shut down my computer because I don't like waiting for 10 minutes to use my computer in the morning.

Of course, it really isn't that big of a deal. I could just go get myself some food, or shower or something and it'd be done, but yeah.

A lot of the time other reasons for keeping it up is because I have a lot of stuff up on my computer I don't want to lose track of, though.

Meritocratic States wrote:If I had to point at it it would be the cultural differences between countries that play the game.

Games produced in Ukraine are notable for portrayal of women that can be seen as sexist to us Westerners.

The recently released game Metro: Last Light by 4A Games and the female skins for the free FPS game Warfare by Crytek Kiev are some of the examples.

Except games from the US can be equally bad with it. It's just something that I will vouch for becoming a less prominent thing in video games. Just like with movies and shows, I want all of these things to work towards more strong female characters and not stereotypical roles to throw them into, a prominent thing I see in movies being the pointless, forced love interest to the main character. There are a lot of things I am passionate about changing and this is just one of them.

I counted UI as as soon as you see the actual XMB appear on screen.

So it took you like, what, a minute? Still not a "lot of work"

But yeah, that seems about right, I think. Never really timed my PS3.

If you have a computer like mine, that takes more effort than riding down a waterfall on a tricycle.

And the fucking drop down menu gets stuck on the damn screen and I have to switch resolutions back-and-forth each time.

Considering the fact that PC exclusives are only often exclusives because of technical considerations such as peripherals like mice and keyboards for strategy, simulators, and some FPS, the fact that console manufacturers won't let developers release those exclusives on the platform, or the fact that a developer simply does not want/cannot deal with the hassle of a console and closed system, like the dev kit fees, licenses, royalties, and things like that. Furthermore, there is no overarching body on PC that rules the platform and does not profit from the exclusivity of a game, thus this "exact same purpose" is never served.

You really can't completely refuse to offer any sort of argument at all and then claim that other people aren't good at debating.

Console exclusives can really push the limits of the hardware, though, showing what you really can do with lower hardware if you truly try. I think they both have their uses at times.

Nobodies really pushing the limits of PC's yet, because if you spend $2,000+ on a PC, you pretty much have a PC better than everything out there. So it is nice sometimes to see what consoles can do when pushing their games to the max of their old hardware (Or new hardware).

I still plan on owning a PS4 for exclusives, and the same deal with PC, but not just exclusives but also for the majority of the games I have on PS3 I'd get on PC instead. So, one day, the consoles I do have won't be used for as much. Though I'd probably pay more attention to exclusives that come out since that's the only thing I'd really be getting for the consoles.

I was actually surprised with how good Tomb Raider looks on the PS3. But I don't know what it looks like on the PC, or the PS4, since it is supposed to come out on that.

Um, that has nothing to do with anything I said. Anything that can be done on a console even if it is pushed to its limits can be done on a PC. Besides, the reasons why most games on PC don't push the hardware is because consoles are holding the system requirements back. The most recent game to truly push the limits of what a PC can do is the original Crysis, and the next will be Star Citizen. Note that Crysis didn't push the limits just because of graphics; The levels were quite large and the enemy had good AI, and such. There's a reason why Crysis 2 was far more linear in design.

Pushing a system to its limits only does so much, and does not necessarily serve a purpose. Limits will only limit ambition; The only thing limits do is add some arbitrary sense of accomplishment for the developer in having slightly superior graphics at the cost of holding back game design.
