Also that album didn't have those clean vocals found on most metalcore songs/albums and those weren't even half as "melodic" as your average metalcore song. So I'm sticking with Post-Hardcore unless someone puts gun against my head and says "they're fucking metalcore!1"

I can feel some 90s post hardcore influence in the album, but just as much metalcore and mathcore.

I don't stress too much about the precise genre since it's out of my usual realm :p

Why are you surprised? Imagine Dragons is pretty good. The original is still better of course, but I'm not at all surprised to see them do it justice.

You keep surprising me with things you like lately.

The only song I know by Imagine Dragons (Radioactive) gets on my nerves, but it isn't terrible, and there's worse. The big awesome drum in it is cool. But the song is just one of those catchy songs that get on my nerves.

You misunderstand. I like Imagine Dragons, and I do believe they're pretty talented, but "Tom Sawyer" is totally outside their genre (or maybe niche would be a better term in this situation), and the idea that such a mainstream, middle of the road, pop/rock/alternative act would cover such an old, not well known by their target age group, prog rock hit by Rush makes me do a double take. The fact that they're talented enough to do it justice and only really botching the guitar solo (not even botched that bad) just makes my jaw drop. I never would've guessed they even really knew Rush existed, and the drummer basically nailed it.

To sum it up: Mind= :eyebrow: > > > > :? > > > :D

The album is Converge's All We Love We Leave Behind.
My favorite songs: Trespasses, Sparrow's Fall, All We Love We Leave Behind

Post-hardcore has significantly less metal influence than metalcore does. I've always known Converge to play a blend of metalcore and hardcore punk (well, that's a given knowing they pioneered the metalcore genre).

Converge is hardly the first Metalcore band.

Converge is hardly the first Metalcore band.

But they are still among the bands to shape and define metalcore, even if there were ones who came before them.

It's not as if I'm claiming Trivium or Bullet For My Valentine did the same, really.

They're a marquee band but I'd hardly give them credit as a band that shaped the genre, they're basically living up to what Rorschach and Starkweather did before them. But I'd say the roots of Metalcore really go back to the first Crossover bands like Cro-Mags.

That album is their least highly received album, too. I initially liked it but the album has actually gotten worse the more I've listened to it.

But now that you've said you liked Muse, though, I'm curious if you'd like these songs.

It's hard to find Muse songs on YouTube now...You have Spotify, right? You can just look up Citizen Erased and Stockholm Syndrome.

I've never had a pop music phase. I don't foresee it happening any time soon either. The closest I've come was my 90s hip hop phase a couple years ago. Or back when I was in middle school and knew nothing about music.

I'm always open to all sorts of different types of genres, and pop can be one of them. But pop is a pretty picky one for me and the stuff I was listening to recently isn't like, amazing pop but I like the mixture of the singers accented singing and they do at least have somewhat interesting sounds.

Despite saying that, my Album of the Year 2013 was an...ambient avant-garde synthpop album?

Some of the best pop music comes from The Knife. That one still easily stands out as one of the best pop bands.

I wasn't trying to say I never like pop. I like Lana Del Rey, Gotye and some other selected artists. I just meant I've never had a full-out phase where I listened primarily to pop over a period of time. It's a genre with a high proportion of crap, unfortunately, and even many of the good artists I've found don't usually have a whole lot of re-play value.

Yeah, I'm on Spotify. I'll be sure to listen to those songs.

Yeah. CHVRCHES, whom I primarily like their singles and even rather ominous use of the singers "sweet" vocals in a couple of tracks, only has about half of their album me actually caring for it, if that. The rest is just okay. Not really bad but not very good, either. And even some songs the second half isn't as good as the first half.

The Knife seems to be the most experimental when it comes to synthpop, and pop music in general.

While my metal playlist is nearing 800 songs (Averaging about half per album I listen to, the ones I deem to be the "best" of the album), my pop one hasn't even hit 200 songs yet.

My post-rock/post-metal one is at 1,300 but yeah.

I kept jumping from random metal genres to synthpop recently. I really don't seem to have a favorite taste in music...

Though I did go through a major post-rock spree, but still, I don't have much of a specific defining genre I listen to the most.
