I decided to marathon all 3D GTAs to 100% in chronological order (Vice City > San Andreas > III), currently at Vice City. As a result, I've been listening to game's radio quite a lot. That gave me an idea. I'll rate all radio stations and post them here!

At some point during this week, I'll give my ratings for Vice City's radio stations :p

I've been mostly listening to VRock, Emotion and Fever. Flash has some excellent songs as well, my favorites being Billie Jean and Owner of a Lonely Heart (Michael Jackson and Yes respectively for those not so familiar with old gold)

I usually listen to VCPR whenever I'm playing the standard game - easily the best of all the talk radios in the entire series. For music, usually either VRock or Espantoso - nothing like Latin jazz when you're fleeing the US military and a city's elite law enforcement units.

Funny enough as you post this, I was actually modifying the in-game stations as we speak, or rather, swapping them out. (Easy enough to do - simply string MP3s together into a massive MP3 file and convert that to a .ADF file, the format that constitutes VC's radio station files, using a very quick tool.) Rather helps alleviate the boredom of the same few tracks if you've obsessively played the game as I have. Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack, yes please. :p

So...I'm giving the new Grimes album a listen when I wake up tomorrow...I'm not really sure what I'm going to think about it, but eh. Grimes is like, one of those artists where I find her kinda interesting but at the same time, half the time I'm not really sure what to think about her musically. But she seems to be artsy (And never looks the same) in her own bizarre way. I'm not exactly expecting me to love this or anything, but I'm trying to increasingly expand my music listening palette into weird things I'm not sure what to think of them.

Any fans?
Any idea as to what genre? (I don't like to put them in metal because only Anti-Pop seems to be a real metal album).

I dunno. Experimental rock is pretty noticeable to me now. Sorta. I do need to however order my avant-garde and experimental rock...Because avant-garde is a LOT weirder and varied while experimental/experimental rock has a more defined sound (Sorta)

Experimental Rock is just a genre that fades in time, if you ask me. Avant-Garde however does not. I would never say an album is experimental rock, but I do use avant-garde.

I think I have Trout Mask Replica and White Light/White Heat as Avant-Garde.

edit: just checked, I also have Avant-Garde Folk as a genre.

I've been a Frizzle Fry fan for forever (dat alliteration), but haven't listened to much else by them for some reason.

I think Funk Metal is a perfectly apt classification tbh

I think I need to go through Primus again, too, because I rated a lot of their stuff high but honestly I think they slowly dwindle off in their career, so I should be tweaking those ratings...

But first I need to alphabetically fix my ratings (Not on RYM), and that sounds like a royal pain in the ass, so I've been trying to find a device that orders it for me...But I never got an answer from people if it exists.

I've been slowly becoming a more hard core fan as time goes on. I still can't penetrate Anti-Pop though. My favorite stuff though is Les Claypool's solo work and Oysterhead.

Also I think similarities to King Crimson turned me on to them.

Here are my RYM stats, though I'm not an avid RYM user like you guys and don't listen to albums as much (though I recently started using the site a bit more). Also, I didn't rate every album I listened to yet.

Average - Decade - Number

3.56 - 1960s - 16 (18.6%)
3.50 - 1970s - 27 (31.3%)
2.89 - 1980s - 19 (22.0%)
3.69 - 1990s - 13 (15.1%)
2.00 - 2000s - 8 (9.30%)
1.83 - 2010s - 3 (3.48%)

Average Number
3.50 1960s 10 (0.64%)
3.86 1970s 55 (3.52%)
3.76 1980s 43 (2.75%)
3.81 1990s 220 (14.1%)
3.66 2000s 679 (43.5%)
3.62 2010s 552 (35.4%)

So apparently I almost have as many albums listened to in the 2010's (Which is only 5 years) as the previous 10...

My ratings seem to be pretty average all across the board, though.

I find it interesting how Corrian shuns the classics in favor of music from the last 15 years, and how Cadonica automatically loves anything released in the 1980s :p
