Depeche Mode are amazing tho.

Was I somehow insinuating I didn't like Depeche Mode with my comment? I was literally naming one of their songs as my favourite song from a particular year.

I'm thinking of making an account on RYM. Any thoughts on it? Fairly sure some here have one so I may just go ahead, but who knows.

I've had an account on RYM since 2017. When I joined, the classic rock canon seemed to make up a large percentage of the top-rated albums on the RYM charts; it seems like the concentration of Radiohead fans has increased over the past few years, and lately the site has become populated increasingly by teenage poptimists - which probably explains a big part of why I'm not as active as I used to be and can't relate to what a lot of people on there are talking about. There are a lot of memes and shitposts on the RYM forums; sometimes you'll find a profound insight, but this tends to be the increasingly small minority. Genre voting can become addictive.

I think it's nice if you like ranking/categorizing music. Though I don't necessarily agree with all of the most highly rated albums, I think there's something for everyone. Yes there are "poptimists" but there are also users who like classic rock, heavy metal, hip hop, just about anything. I don't really go on the forums though, I mostly keep to myself by rating albums and making lists. It's also a good site for finding out more about obscure music.

Have been way too into the Smiths these last few weeks. I've always been a huge New Wave fan, including a lot of darker bands such as Joy Division, but I'd always slept on the Smiths really until now.

Morrissey is still a prick, though.

Yeah Morrissey do be like that, but they have some decent songs.

Misfits have a similar problem with their lead singers (particularly Graves).

I'm thinking of making a start on an album at some point. Not sure of the specific genre yet, although it's likely to be around the alternative area.

Also I'm thinking a lo-fi sound would be nice. So the end result would probably sound like GrOb but probably slightly less angry.

Man, I have a lot of good albums to go through in 1995 it looks like, and I already know 1996 was a really good year, so this is going to be fun to go through. Like over half of the 30 albums from 1995 seem good.

The new Ulver album has a very synthwave vibe going on with some of the instrumentals. Its basically their last album, but even more pop.

Holy shit, 1996 had a lot of good albums. And I mean like, there's gonna be less than the above year, but so many of them are sooo good.

Also, Zeal & Ardor took a more current events approach for an EP

And the only song I've heard from 2020 is the studio version of Carpenter Brut's cover of Maniac, which has been out as a live version for three years, and the original has been out for 37 years.

Fun little story: This here song really blew up with fans of The Owl House. And the guy who wrote it heard it was popular with them, and wrote a sequel song specifically for the fans. What a cool dude.
