I can confirm anyone who has worked retail (Including me) hates that damn song. Cripes, they started playing it the day after Halloween.

I would post my top 2019 albums, but I have like 9 albums to listen to still in the year and I want to re-listen to some to finalize, so I'm behind.

I haven't even listened to a single album from 2019 yet. Well, I listened to an EP from 2019 but that's it.

The biggest music discovery for me this decade was, without a shadow of a doubt, synthwave.

Cosumar wrote:I made a decade list

Making such list would be really hard and time consuming for me, so I'll just throw my AotYs 2010-2019 here

2011: Primordial - Redemption at the Puritan's Hand
2012: Elysian Blaze - Blood Geometry
2013: Los Bastardos Finlandeses - Day of the Dead
2014: Brother Firetribe - Diamond in the Firepit
2015: Tsjuder - Antiliv
2016: Behexen - The Poisonous Path
2017: Pagan Altar - The Room of Shadows
2018: Carpenter Brut - Leather Teeth
2019: Candlemass - The Door to Doom

SotY list too, because why not?
2010: Teräsbetoni - Metalliolut
2011: Megadeth - Public Enemy No. 1
2012: Happy Days - Happy Days
2013: Black Sabbath - God Is Dead?
2014: Bruce Springsteen - High Hopes
2015: David Hasselhoff - True Survivor
2016: Perturbator - Assault
2017: Pagan Altar - The Portrait of Dorian Gray
2018: Carpenter Brut - Leather Teeth
2019: Beast in Black - Die by the Blade

I think Simulation Theory takes the #1 slot for me.

Song of the Decade is definitely "Rowing" by Soundgarden.

I started a list but it might take a while to finish it. I'd definitely include "Lonerism" by Tame Impala, I think it's the only 5/5 album I have from that decade that was actually recorded in the 2010s (not archival material).

Ugh, I've already seen the internet rant about how awful this is, I don't need the melodrama over something so stupid over here. What is and is not rock is irrelevant, this is what rock station's have been playing therefore that's what the charts count as rock.

Billboard is dying and they're going with pop to try and stay relevant?

No that is incorrect, blame the rock stations that pick them up, Billboard just calculates along with Nielsen tracking the biggest songs either in all formats/genres, or in separate charts (I.E, rock, R&B, hip-hop/rap, you get the idea), complies the data into a points based system come the end of the year/decade, and you have what we've got. Also, Billboard does not need to stay relevant, it's been relevant since it's inception in tracking music back since the late 50s, it's not the charts "going pop"

Nope, they compile data from what other stations play.

Not that I care about the mainstream anyway. There's a lot I could say about it but I can't be bothered to say right now.

That explanation is correct.

The Mainstream Rock chart (i.e. what "the rock chart" was in the 80s) is what you're looking for if you want to see more traditional rock and metal represented.

And the 2019 rush (no pun intended) of musician deaths continues into 2020. I was not expecting this. May he rest in peace. :(

Posted here for relevance.

I have been aware of a thread where readers posted their top genres on Spotify, but it means nothing to me because Spotify has, if I recall correctly, yet to make a profit. I think this is likely down to cheap digital downloads on Amazon Digital Music, and in our country, 7digital.

In my case, Audio CDs remain my main port of call for a good majority of tracks: only a handful of tracks, such as David Hasselhoff’s True Survivor, were digital downloads due to the fact that they were never released on Audio CD.

I think that digital downloads take away my enjoyment of hunting down the originals in marketplaces like eBay and Discogs, and then create lossless digital files as if you were developing photographs from a film camera. That is not to say that cheap digital downloads do not have a future: in fact, they have contributed towards finding a different way to curb piracy in the aftermath of the Sony BMG rootkit scandal.

"Never Gonna Give You Up". I used to be firmly in the "Take On Me" camp but the memes surrounding that song have been more recent.

I've been rick-rolled once; it isn't that big of a deal. Just let the song play and enjoy it; it's 3:32 of glorious late-80s cheesy pop that isn't made like that anymore.

There's nothing groundbreaking I'd do because I got freaking rick rolled. In this day and age that would literally be my response, "What year is this?".
