Well, of the ones I've listened to so far, Flying Microtonal Banana is good. Its got quite a lot of Turkish rock influence in it. Its repetitive but this song is a good place to start. Plus here

They have an album out this year that's also quite varied. You got stuff like this, which sounds like something you'd hear on a kids program but with a message, then this, and just stuff that's closer to straight up blues rock. Or, I guess, "Boogie rock"

Then, also this year, there's their thrash metal album

I second this notion.

I'm pretty sure this'll be my starting point (thrash metal being my number one favorite genre) but after that I'll probably go by my usual procedure with a new band, I'll start from their debut and listen to the rest in chronological order. :p

New Kayo Dot basically sounds nothing like any other Kayo Dot album, which is basically par for the course at this point.

I've been listening to tons of wardruna and various mongolian throat singing artists recently. Very very cool.

If you like Wardruna you might like Heilung. I fell in love with this band (First song I heard) after what happens at 5:13.

What I find interesting about this new Kayo Dot album is that his vocals sound a lot closer to his early day vocals which were uh...something, and I thought it was an interesting choice to sound like the older stuff vocally NOW. Though his vocals are definitely more refined. And it amazes me how little Toby Driver sounds like himself on any of the albums.

Huun Huur Tu is also great, but I dunno if they'd be in your realm of liking.

Heilung is a great band! I picked up their new cd a few months back.

Huun Huur Tu is my go to for throat singing. Altai Kai is also great.

Since when does sub pop sign rap? They were a grunge, indie/alt rock type label for years and years. Weird. Anyway, I'm not a fan of rap so I can't judge if that's good or not.

The Hu, a Mongolian rock band that has throat singing and traditional instruments as well as modern ones, just released their first album today. Can't wait to get my hands on it! Plus I'll get to see them next month! How cool.

I prefer their other new song, which is basically horror-themed hip-hop, including an instrumental sound that feels John Carpenter-esque.

The Who are about to drop a new album, and it's simply called WHO. Available on CD, vinyl and cassette.

They've already released a promo single, Ball and Chain, a protest song against the Guantanamo prison.

Ric Ocasek was an extremely gifted singer, and I will always love The Cars. Discovering "Magic" in high school was one of the purest and most happy experiences I've ever had listening to music. Their singles were always the highlights, but anyone who thinks that they're just a singles band should be directed to their debut album. Coincidentally, for the last couple days, I've been talking with my roommates about the band. The fact that Ocasek died during our days-long debate is very unfortunate, but also a testament to the fact that young people still care about the work that he did, and that his music still means a lot to a lot of people. He walked on water.

...I didn't even know that Mark Hollis had died, and I feel really bad that I only learned about it today. Though in a funny way, the fact that I missed it for so long speaks to how successfully he disappeared from the public eye. Unfortunately, I don't as of yet know much about Talk Talk's post-rock albums, since I'm more of a new wave listener, but The Colour of Spring is one of my favorite albums of all time (seriously, top three). You can't end an album better than he did with the riff on "Time It's Time." I'm not sure how proud he was of his synthpop work, but I still love a lot of it, especially the immortal "It's My Life." He was a supremely talented musician, a trailblazer, and stands alone as one of a kind.

its a lot more mellow, but I do quite dig the post-rock stuff from Talk Talk. It's old school as hell post-rock, too, before it got all cliche and crescendo.

Eddie Money and Ric Ocasek died within two days of each other. What a sad weekend for the world of popular music.

I got a pre-order stream for the new Clipping record:
Hit and miss but the hits are good and their reference game is higher than mine.
It also seems back loaded (Give or take an unplayed piano on fire)oddly enough. I hope one of those tracks get a vid.

Shit. Now i want a Silent hill and siren rap record. That would slap

I've been listening to my girl Halsey a lot. She's kind of an alt artist? Like her beats and lyrics are deep but fairly unusual.

No you're dead-on. For some reason, it's always the busiest concert-going time for me.

On another note, this 70s psych song is really weird and awesome. Sounds really ahead of its time.
