Interesting how people brought up Dillinger Escape Plan just now. I borrowed their album One of Us Is the Killer from library yesterday

Haven't listened to yet though.

Disagree with you there. I love The Dillinger Escape Plan.

They just aren't my type of band. I can see them as on OK band, I guess.

Mathcore is just a cooler name for progressive metalcore. They're the exact same thing.

Here's a link too the new Coldplay single I was talking about. This one might see significant radio play actually.

EDIT: this is the trippy ambient one though: http://youtu.be/BQeMxWjpr-Y

Very nice. How many CDs do you think you have in total? I just started my collection almost two years ago and I've got about 80. But I imagine you've been collecting for longer than that...

It's mathcore.

Anyway, does anyone have any favorite covers? You kinda forget that artists can make wonderful covers of songs, sometimes making them better than the original. Do you have any covers you prefer to the original?

Ones that come to mind for me are:
Land of Confusion, covered by Disturbed. A forgettable band with a wonderful cover.
Lake of Fire, covered by Nirvana. This was certainly a highlight of unplugged.
I Can't Make You Love Me, covered by Bon Iver. Such a beautiful cover, really captures and amplifies the beauty of the original.
Into the Void, covered by Kyuss. I prefer the original to this version, but I love this version nonetheless.
Hurt, covered by Johnny Cash. I will be the first to admit that I'm in love with Johnny Cash's voice. You can feel his pain and his music is fueled by so much emotion. I don't know if I prefer this version to the original, but I certainly adore it.
War Pigs, covered by Faith no More. I don't prefer it to Sabbath, but definitely a great cover.

I'll probably think of some later

I love this cover of Lorde's Royals by Alex Boye'. It's an "Africanized" cover of the song...I like it better than the original.
Also from the same guy, this cover of Let It Go from the movie Frozen.
^I'd like to hear your opinion on this Corrian, see if you find it less annoying than the original. :p

I also love this reggae cover of Katy Perry's Firework by Tessanne Chin. 100x better than the original.

And this cover of Demi Lovato's Give Your Heart A Break by Kim Petras. I don't like it better than the original but I liked it.

I probably have like, a dozen more, so I'll just leave it with these four. :p

I don't think, I know!
163 CDs. One case has two albums (W.A.S.P.s Helldorado and The Sting live album) and one "book" has 5 (Iced Earth's Dark Genesis box: 3 first albums, cover album and EP)
And 8 vinyls.

My collection "started" in 2004 when I bought Nightwish's Once. But actual collecting I started in 2007. Before that I didn't really collect them, just got random album every now and then.

My music collection isn't impressive enough to take a picture of yet.

But we have a tower similar to that...full of video games.

And a shitty CD holder we got from a yard sale...

Cover versions that I like:

Katzenjammer - Land of Confusion
Garbage (feat. Screaming Females) - Because the Night
Patti Smith - Gloria
Mark Lanegan - I'll Take Care of You (Pretty much the entire album actually)
Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Ramblin' Man
The Clash - I Fought the Law
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
Sonic Youth - Superstar
The Fugees - Killing Me Softly
Rage Against the Machine - Maggie's Farm
The Black Crowes - Hard to Handle
Amy MacDonald - Born to Run
The Pogues - Dirty Old Town
Izzy Stradlin - Memphis, Tennessee
Jeff Beck (feat. Imogen Heap) - Rollin' and Tumblin'

There are loads more, but that'll do for starters :)
Save the Creme Egg!

I used to, man, I really did. Parachutes and A Rush... are masterpieces. But X&Y was nearly a total disaster (Swallowed By The Sea is one of a few exceptions), and, whilst Viva la Vida was better, it wasn't quite up to the standard of the first two albums. Admittedly I have heard Mylo Xyloto but I just don't expect good things from them any more. Which is a shame, because the mind who wrote Amsterdam is capable of so much more than, say, Fix You.

New Chelsea Wolfe song with King Dude. Pretty awesome.

She seems to be rather busy...She did guest vocals on Russian Circles 2013 album, and released her own album in late 2013...And now this.

Members of Slint AND Grails formed a band called Watter and they have a single out and album coming out at the end of March

Lots of collaborative stuff coming out I'm actually interested in.

Sunn O and Ulver
Grails and Slint
Eluvium and Explosions in the Sky.
