I'm not very old, but I can feel my tastes start to settle. For the past few years I've really only listened to Alternative Rock, Noise Rock, Punk, Hip-Hop, Post-Hardcore, and Shoegaze. As far as Post-Rock goes, I only really listen to the big names anymore because there's so much crescendocore that clogs it up.

Yeah. I think I can shrink my post-rock playlist quite a lot because there are a lot that I look back at now and realize how snooze-worthy and unoriginal the post-rock is, and how unlikely I am to ever listen to the band again.

I don't see my tastes ever settling, really. They settled on a lot of mellow stuff in my early teens and finally have evolved. In all honesty I hope I can be an 80-year old metalhead and still exploring creative music every year :P

2 Chainz is just...like, one of those people who you just wonder "WHY ARE YOU A THING?" I don't think I've ever been so biased against an artist before. But the guy just can't rap, and has ruined several good songs from different artists.

Why are you surprised? Imagine Dragons is pretty good. The original is still better of course, but I'm not at all surprised to see them do it justice.

He's the most entertaining music reviewer that I know. He reviews a lot of hip-hop, actually, though he doesn't restrict himself to anything specific.

Well, that's not to say that I don't enjoy finding new music, it's actually a great pleasure of mine, I just find myself going out of my way to look for music for those certain styles. I'll check out any Metal releases that have created buzz among my friends, but I rarely go looking for them anymore. I don't think Metal has much that I can relate to anymore. I like atmosphere, weirdness, songwriting, noise, and any combination of those factors and many others.

My tastes now are wildly different from when I was in high school. I used to be a huge Prog guy, but it just doesn't feel the same to me anymore. I think a lot of releases from bands like Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh, The Replacements, The Mountain Goats, etc. all have a sort of earnest personal quality to them that a lot of more "technical" music doesn't. Or at least that's the reaction that that style of music continues to evoke from me that others don't.

I don't think I've ever specifically listened to music that I can relate to. Because no specific style of music feels like specifically something I can relate to, I guess. I dunno, I listen to music because I love listening to different types of music. It being something I can relate to never really even crosses my mind, except in lyrics here and there. That's about it.

I actually find it to be interesting that the bands that are actually popular in the post-rock realm are actually some of the most creative bands in the genre. Not THE most, but compared to a large chunk of the generic post-rock formula a lot of bands do, they definitely change their styles around and come off as being creative and evolving.

It's just weird, because in so many genres, a lot of the really stale stuff in the genre is what gets popular. But not so much in the case with post-rock.

On that subject: Members from Explosions in the Sky and Eluvium have formed a new band and they've released their first song.

Though I did go through a major post-rock spree, but still, I don't have much of a specific defining genre I listen to the most.

And because that post-rock spree and your praise for post-rock happened around the time I first started seeing you, you're that mr. post-rock for me. Probably forever

But yeah, I don't really have any main genre either. True, it's more likely that I like thrash/doom metal instead of death metal but still, I can't really listen to one genre more than 12 hours. That's why I have so wide music taste.

The discovery of a post-rock band is what really got me into the love for music, so it then spread like wildfire to other post-rock bands first, and then to more and more music from there.

Though, since I was like, 8, I've always had a varied taste. But that's because of the parents I grew up with. You could have my dad playing avant-garde music, pretty much anything and everything Mike Patton, comedy music, so on and so forth...

Hell, my dad suggested me music to "Wake me up" once, from some random stuff he downloaded to give a try, and I ended up loving the band (That wasn't very good for waking up) and that helped me get more into music listening. That is the post-rock band I talk about. Sigur Ros, that is.

It feels more psychedelic than post-rock to me.

Either way, to each their own :P

And the post-rock genre varies widely, anyway.

Heard this this afternoon, I'm pretty interested.

Now we're talking about post-rock now anyway, anyone more interested in the sweeter melodies instead of the metaly music?

Both definitely have their uncreative music. But I'll admit I sometimes even listen to that when I have to get something done without too much distraction

I feel as if my parents dying made me change around my musical preferences quite a bit. I couldn't really bare to listen to things like thrash and death metal because they were so dear to my father, and I couldn't bear to listen to anymore old progressive rock as that was my mother's favorite. I don't know if my tastes have settled or I'm just getting older, or maybe even a little bit of both. But if it isn't heavy and sludgy then it's not my type of metal these days. And for rock music, I've become much more partial to post-hardcore bands (recently and most notably Quicksand) and softer space or alt rock like Hum.
