It *has* spawned the only conversation on this thread in a week, though. There's positives in everything.

I'm starting to try to get into music listening again (I've stopped since I've finally gotten myself a girlfriend), so I'm going through Flying Microtonal Banana right now. I've listened to it before, but at work (Yes, at work. I love working in the back). So I could use a more thorough listen.

The song "Rattlesnake" is probably one of the most irritatingly catchy songs I've ever heard.

Also, I hope things go well with your gf. :D

I dunno if your comment is complimenting the song or not, because it's basically accurate and I've come to like the song.

And thanks!

Lol it's not complimenting the song. I've only listened to it like once but it pops into my head at the most random times and proceeds to annoy the heck out of me.

So a posthumous Avicii album was released yesterday for no reason and I listened to it and I thought it was okay. I think the first few songs and the final tracks are the highlights but the middle tracks are the album's weak points. Normally with posthumous albums they can be hit or miss for me, I loved MJ's Xscape but HATED XXXTENTACION'S Skins, so when I went into this I was kind of worried. But the first couple of singles (SOS and Tough Love) were really good and I think that helped my expectations. I can see people hate this for the sole reason of it being a bunch of money grubbing producers and label execs just milking a dead guy's fans for all it's worth, but I'd argue if the music is good, why front. And you know what, it is good, at least I think it is.

Best: SOS, Heaven, Tough Love, Heart Upon My Sleeve
Worst: Ain't A Thing, Bad Reputation, Hold The Line

7/10

Probably getting an electric keyboard soon because I want to start back up playing the piano again. I'm thinking about trying my hand at songwriting, though not sure how that will go, especially since I can't sing but want to write lyrics to accompany them. Wonder if any of my friends would be interested in forming a band?

If not and I go ahead and record myself, do you all think you'll be able to handle my horrible singing long enough to give me some feedback? :p

Not for me :p

Despite being from Austin, I'm new to this band. Is there somewhere I should start before listening to the new song?

They're great. I've seen them live. I don't know if you're into industrial type of stuff, but I dig them quite a bit.

Here are a couple:
The Drifter
And I Grew into Ribbons
If This Is What Passes For Living
In Defense of Resentment
Blacken the Other Eye (My favorite part is the whole end section shift to aggression)
In Contempt

As far as albums go, I'd start with their first, End Position.

They're known for their very upbeat, positive, inspiring lyrics. Totally not sarcasm or anything. I mean look at the song titles.

Street Sects kinda sounds like a more ferocious Skinny Puppy, which is not a bad thing in my book. The band also reminds me of acts such as early Skrew, Dogpile and Numb, but those names might be a bit too obscure by now.

Personally, i think most music from 1989 onward is bad, the 1980s had the best mix of pop and rock music and 1983-1988 was the peak of music

Like a lot of people, you're most likely just looking in all the wrong places. I think most "popular" stuff was trash in every era, so.

Close, but there are a few exceptions like Adele, U2 and REM. I don't think that there is a cut off point where all music instantly became rubbish, plus the quality of music from some artists have declined, which is why my love for Madonna is limited to the 1980s. That doesn't mean the 1980s was a perfect era for music, though.

Adele was pretty good back in the earrly 2010s but she went downhill with "Hello" in my opinion, i never liked U2 or REM at all though, and yes i know thzt the 80s werent perfect for music either, but out of all the decades i think it had the best popular music, the 1970s had some good classic rock but all the disco novelty junk stops it from being good
