New Animal Collective. It feels like a better version of their last album honestly (Which was pretty meh)

Nice

Great music for me to be listening to before bed.

Nice to see a band of such fame being so courageous and stepping out of their comfort zone. :)

I heard some people talking about this. I personally find it funny how it's titled "Heavy" but it's the exact opposite. I hope they were intending for that irony.

I don't find any of their stuff ''heavy'', but hey, I've only heard the radio hits so I might be wrong.

Obviously you're wrong in that case :p

I mean, for example: this is Metallica's biggest radio hit, even though this is among their heaviest songs. And both of them are from the same album. I'm pretty sure same goes for Linkin Park and other metal/rock bands as well, at least in the mainstream radio.

Yeah, I usually find that a lot of rock bands' heavier stuff is less well known. eg. The Beatles' most well known hits are typically more poppy, but they also have heavier songs like I Want You (She's So Heavy), Yer Blues, and Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey, but these aren't as well known.

For me that song feels very heavy in a way. Not in the brutal death metal way but you know.

My favorite Beatles song is Helter Skelter which is considered a proto-heavy metal song by some people. Basically their "heaviest" song anyways.

Wow, Linkin Park is officially dead to me now. Not even exaggerating to say this could easily be a Justin Bieber song. Generic, empty, autotuned Top 40 shite.

I would tip Fight Fire With Fire, The Thing That Should Not Be and Harvester of Sorrow as some of Metallica's heaviest songs. Linkin Park were at their heaviest when they pulled out a down-tuned nu metal riff and screamed the same line over it over and over  One Step Closer, A Place For My Head, etc... Not really heavy so much as angry and intense.

I recognize a huge difference between ''dark'', the opposite of ''happy/optimistic'', and ''heavy'' as an opposite of ''calm''. And it's usually the ''heavy'' that I can't find much of. When I do, it's usually in the form of too much distortion. :lol2:
And that Metallica song, to me it sounds like something they could play on the radio anyway (especially because of the low tempo). Not exactly sure why they focus on the ballads instead.

Fight Fire With Fire is really good. I really like how rhythmic the guitar(s) are/is.

The only reason why I picked Sad But True before the ones you mentioned, was because it's from the same album as Nothing Else Matters :p

For me heavy isn't as much an opposite for calm, instead it's more of an opposite for intense. Think of it as a difference between "energetic and upbeat" and "carrying five thousand tons of steel while trying to dance". Or something along those lines. Where energetic is light and easy to dance along.

I was going to mention that but I think it's their one of their most well known heavy songs (the only one more popular I can think of is Revolution) but it's still nothing in terms of popularity compared to songs like Hey Jude.

I have once again added a bunch of new stuff to my backlog. Any time I shrink it, it just grows again. Though right now it is still mostly growing because I am still focusing on clearing out old stuff (rather slowly)

I can't imagine carrying anything while trying to dance... but to be honest I'm not into dancing at all.

Every song sounds way too happy for me. I was really surprised actually, the earlier discussion made me expect to hear something very different.
Also, those song lengths are interesting..... 45 seconds to 3:50... I'm certainly unused to that. :P

Apparently the Earth/The Bug split EP is now translating into a full collaborative album.

If it is on this level, I approve. The 2nd song on the EP was only okay, though, but I love the first one.

Edit: Here is a new song from the upcoming album

Went through and sorted all of my ambient, drone, and noise music (And some minimalism, but I tend to put that into the category with classical and such since it is pretty much the mellow version of that) in a couple of days. For me recently, that's a pretty good record. That included listening to probably 10 albums or so.
