Meh, cybernetics are Ok, but what you really want is gene manipulation. So out of interest how large is the potential market for this sort of thing?

Why would you want gene manipulation? That'd require you be born all over again and that'd suck.

You want cybernetics.

The question is then posed for some.
Cybernetics - albeit with aesthetic features which moreso function like that of an animal countepart. What 'ought to be replaced?
inb4 everything.

Seriously has me thinking though. Cybernetic Dragons, dude. 'S hardcore, despite the cost of simply making it, and then the ballache of actually coping with your new stuff. Deus Ex vibes everywhere.

Someone attracted to anthropomorphic animals.

What kind of attraction? Does it have to be sexual?

Or can you just say ''hey talking animals are cool'' and qualify?

Any really, and no it doesn't have to be sexual.

Wiki defines furries as a subculture interested in fictional anthropomorphic animal characters with human personalities and characteristics. So yes, if you have an interest in talking anthropomorphic animals that is enough to be a furry.

Then my ten year old former self was technically a furry then... because I was really into Crash Bandicoot games and even roleplayed games in which an entire kingdom was populated by ''Bandicootarians (based on Crash Bandicoot).'' And yes, these Bandicootarians could talk...

You learn something new about yourself every day...

But let's say another person really likes to play Crash Bandicoot but aside from playing Crash Bandicoot he has no interests whatsoever in any anthropomorphic animals. However, his obsession with the play station game and the character approaches a level of obsession (but non-sexual and largely based on the gameplay mechanics and the character appearance). Now does this person qualify as a furry?

If he does, wouldn't that necessarily make any die-hard fan of Crash Bandicoot necessarily a furry (perhaps overbroadening the term)?

What do you call a human with robotic tentacles coming out of their back? I'd want to be one of those.

And yes, but that's a bit of a high sight to expect recent developments to deliver. Maybe someday.

Every definition defines it as an interest in anthropomorphic animals, which is plural and not singular.

Wikifur (The Furry wiki) says about the word Furry;
It also pertains to an interest in anthropomorphic animals and/or mythological or imaginary creatures which possess human or superhuman capabilities.

If they have an interest in more than one anthropomorphic animal, then I could consider them to be a furry, if they identified as a furry.

That's germ line engineering, and other then being highly controversial, is useless for us as it would only affect later generations who would probably resent it like the deus ex guy. No we need somatic gene therapy and cybernetics, after all why pick one when you can have both?

No. If you're interested in something that is furry, that doesn't mean that you're interested in everything furry.
If you like the character for how he looks, you should check out the fandom and see if you like it. That's really the only way of knowing.

A generally good rule is that if you identify yourself as furry, you are one. If not, well then, you're not, even if you meet all other criteria (perhaps a furry in denial, but hey). Same with the sexual side. If you want your interaction with the furry fandom to be entirely non-sexual, then it will be (bar the occasional encounter). If however, you want to dive into that side of it, then its there for you to do so.

It isn't. I like some scalies but only an insignificant minority of scalies while I consistently get off on furries. That's why I can only call myself a furry and not a scalie.

Does it count if it was in an entirely text based RP? If so, yes for me. A good many times, though not recently.
Mostly out of boredom and because other people wanted to.

Sadly, it's one of the many artists/groups that postponed their comics indefinitely. :/
