Because the writers of the fanfic had to know, even on a near subconscious level that their works ran the risk of being invalidated by what DHX establishes as canon. Honestly I wouldn't even get so much amusement out of it if I didn't already know what the outcome of this episode is going to be. Mainly bitching, whining and gnashing of teeth. Also considering in the past that DHX had received death threats from members of this fandom over controversial changes to the show, I'm not really all that sympathetic when the show ends up invalidating a few fanfics.

All Fanfiction is merely what-if´s. Back in the time I wrote Fanfictions about Davis and Gatomon. Not the perfect pairing in the show, but it all made sense with me. At that time at least, I was young. XD
