This makes sense for small motions like writing but doesn't work very well for bigger objects such as lines or circles. The reason is that the wrists range of motion is limited to quite small movements, especially when drawing circles. Keep your wrist locked steady and move your elbow and shoulder instead. Should give you better results with a little practice. :)

Thanks, I'll give that a try!

Celestial says that Twilight has done something that no one else has done before. If this is true, how did Celestia, Luna and Cadence become alicorns? Were they born like that (or have they always existed?). Is the process unique in every case?

Starswirl the bearded seems to have failed because he tried to coax cooperation, yet Twilight had to try his spell in order to be able to complete the real one.

Is Celestial lying? Was Starswirl the Bearded the one who figured out how to become an alicorn?
Or did he fail because, while he figured out that there had to be an alicorn like Twilight eventually, and roughly how to become that alicorn, it was not his destiny?

Well According to the book Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell (which having been referenced in the comics means it's canon) Cadance was originally a Pegasus who ascended through her comprehension of love. Twilight was the first to ascend through that particular path, but not the first ascension.

And I think someone mentioned somewhere that Celestia and Luna were always Alicorns, can't remember where I heard that though.

Cool! I've gotta check those out :)

It's very hard to draw with a mouse. I wouldn't recommend it.

Better in that case to draw on paper and scan/take a photo and upload to the computer.

So we were talking the other day about how few males there seemed to be, at least in Season 1. And it reminds me of the Mormon long-term strategy to expand through conquest. You send all your young men out to fight wars, and the ones who survive get like ten wives, keeping the population booming. Meanwhile, women run the empire, forge and work in industries, and take care of everything except killing and dying. It's scarily well-thought-out, and quite similar to Equestria's matriarchal structure. Plus, it fits with my headcanon.

I'm not talking about the adorkable modern LDS that we all know and love, which has become just another slightly different sect of Christianity. I'm talking about what the State of Deseret becomes in every poorly-written alternate history novel, most notably Timeline-191.

Matriarchy needs no special explanation such as there were no men around to rule by virtue of their superior nature.

I avoid those like wildfire but I've seen that comparison being made earlier in the thread so my guess is yes.

Ifreann wrote:I don't think they've ever explained what the spell did.

Twilight says that she fixed the spell so I think that a reasonable assumption is that it's supposed to do what it did in the end (I.e. turn you into an alacorn).

You know when matriarchy DOES need special conditions? When it's designed and outlined by misogynistic men in the mid-19th century. The fact that their plan led to even a quasi-matriarchy is astonishing. Especially when you consider how sexist Mormonism is by nature.

I was talking about an actual theoretical mutation of Mormonism, had the US government not had the sense to kick 'em in the junk before they could build up an army for the State of Deseret. If that nation did exist, it'd have caused some serious pain for America and Mexico, that's for sure.
