It is popular nowadays music like rap, especially in France (I know that because we learned it in French). Music like Beatles and similar still exist, but it isn't so popular anymore. Take for example Malta's song in Eurovision. Or Iceland's. Or Spain's. The real disgrace is Ireland, because it has from the best music in the world, but pop has squashed it down. I personally like Irish music. You should really listen to it. Ireland Land of Green is one of them, first time I heard it I cried.

There's pretty much good music from every country in the world if you dig for it. For some reason I half have this goal to at least hear an artist from every single country in the world. But I'm also the guy who wants to travel to every country in the world, sooooo

Music is not dying per se; indeed, the only reason there is so much bad music is because of how the music industry works - a large portion of their demographic are under the age of twenty, and, well, female. Therefore, they end up making music that tailors to their tastes. Hence why we have so much boybands and "attractive" pretty boys. It has always been like this, in fact.
Corporate bands had also been around since the 70's. Look at ELO. They didn't have looks, so they had to make music that didn't suck.

tl;dr: Music has always been like this, and the reason why your favourite band isn't usually in the top 10 charts in whatever country you're from is because they aren't that popular with the general audience.

Indeed it has for the last 220+ years since Mozart has died.

Blasveck wrote:Is Music, as a genre, dying?

Now, when I say dying, I'm talking about the quality of music, really. With a saturation of mainstream* artists resorting to using autotune and phasing out of actual instruments, I feel music, as a genre and the quality of it, is dying.

Perhaps this is just the ramblings of a musically-inclined teen, but when I see the music that is produced today, what I don't see is the Beatles, the Jimi Hendrixes, the Elvises, etc.

What do you think, NS? Is the quality of music slacking as of late?

Not really, if anything, new styles and musical genres are flourishing. Perhaps the general population's taste in music has dwindled quite a bit, but think about it, that's only natural. I don't share my Great Grandfather's taste in music, I don't think doo wop music is entertaining, Classical Music was once the Pop Music of its time, etc...

So no, music isn't dying. The "mainstream" is different in every language and using it a reference to the state of health of music in general is quite wrong. The quality isn't dying either. Its just that people's general tastes in music have changed. Autotune was once considered "bad", but it can actually be used quite artistically.

You're formulating your opinion based on your own biased tastes :p Which is okay, cus that's just what we humans do

They cater to boys, too, you know.

Mozart isn't the only talented person in the last 220 years...To say that music has been dying because ONE composer dies is silly.

This

They do cater to boys, but I was using a particular example. You are correct in that a lot of the music that boys listen to tend to be "hard boi" stuff.
But
Hakio wrote:Music will never die.
this is absolutely correct. To make an assumption that music is on its last legs is silly.

I was mostly referring to the sexualized female artists, but that works, too.
