Vampires, perfect topic for discussion.

Honestly, I have seen so many things about vampires, read so many things it's scary. I've seen the ORIGINAL Dracula by Bram Stoker, seen Van Helsing: vampire hunter, seen other varieties of vampires even in fantasy books.

Then twilight. Sparkle? Explain the physics of that? There is NO PROOF that vampires sparkle. It's impossible. Their skin is fair, very fair. They don't know themselves any more and the lust for blood is always there. No matter how long they can go without it. They have to have that blood or they will die. That blood is the reason they live so long.

Neo-Latin Rome wrote:If the vamp isn't from Romania/Transylvania, he/she isn't legit. *nods*

THIS ^ is where the original vampires came from. Transylvania. So you think.

The first 'sighting' or 'memory' of vampires was found on pottery long ago in Mesopotamia. They were not known to be called vampires back then but, Blood-drinking demons. The first vampire later was named Lilith, now in present day referred to as the Mother of vampires. To ward her off people used Amulets, and she drank babies blood because it was the most 'youthful' to make her look seductive to men. Even male vampires were around and they seduced female victims.

Honestly, twilight has 'corrupted' the term Vampire. Besides, no human can stay alive when baring a vampire baby. It's technically and physically impossible, why? Because the baby would have of his father and half of his mother. So he might have the skin of his mother, the blood thirst of his father, but not the strength of his father.

According to Wikipedia, Count Dracula would not be killed by sunlight, just made less powerful.

But that doesn't mean Twilight is good, of course.

Pop culture ruined the vampires indeed.
I remember when they used to be scary, like the ones in Nosferatu (1922) and Dracula (1931) (I saw both).

So old movies aren't pop culture and never were, even at the time of their creation?

Not all vampires in pop culture are shitty. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a mixed bag.

And vampires in The Dresden Files are deeply creepy.

I still remember reading the first book about five or so years ago. When Harry went to visit Bianca, I of course made the requisite "lol, does she sparkle" joke in my head.
Then we saw her true form.
From that moment on, I never, EVER made the mistake of putting the Red Court on the level of Twilight.
Well, okay, except for the one in Changes that ran in fear of Harry. I mentally dubbed him "Edward" for a while.

Hellsing did vampires fairly recently and those were cool. Ultimately, the Twilight movies brought to life and than killed the romantic vampire trope and theres been major backlash against it, I would say that theres plenty of room for a new awesome vampire movie

Other than Stoker's novel, vampires have become fangirl targets and Romanian stereotypes.

But there's nothing really to ruin, given that they're fictional creatures.

I would almost be willing to say yes, but with stories out there like Underworld, 30 Days of Night, Blade, Elder Scrolls V Skyrim and a few others, works of incompetent schlock like twilight will never be able to ruin the awesomeness that is the Vampire.

Photosensitive skin is what you are referring to for the skyrim thing. Vampires are supposedly scarred by sunlight. And in history only half vampire half human people can walk in sunlight.

Or in Blade, pure bloods need sun block. :/

I agree. But the Oblivion system wasn't much better, with how feeding caused weakness and allowed sunlight immunity.
