I think Equestria is a breadbasket nation.
We've seen that earthponies possess the power to grow food either better (Or perhaps even grow it at ALL).
Not to mention the large amount of gems and vegetarian nature of the populace.

I'd be willing to bet meat is an export to the griffins for instance, and gems to dragons.
It'd certainly explain the lack of international tension. Noone wants to bite the hand that feeds.

A tough customer to be sure. Perhaps it would be prudent to give him a nice set of sharp teeth. Next time he noms on Pinkie,
is the last time he noms on Pinkie.
