It wasn't all completely bad, just mostly dull and occasionally infuriating. But this is in retrospect, having started at Series 5 and Series 3 simultaneously (BBC America's schedule is weird).

How can you say you detest series 2 yet pass no comment about the abysmal series 3?

Yeah, season 3 kinda blows.

I've just done a rewatch of Series 3 and I actually thought it was pretty decent. Only poor stories are really The Lazarus Experiment and probably the finale.

Lazarus was alright I thought. And by finale, I hope you mean the last two episodes, because Utopia was by miles the best episode that series (of the top of my head).

Series 3 was alright. There were a number of good episodes. I liked The Runaway Bride, Smith and Jones, Gridlock, 42, Blink, and Utopia. Blink and the end of Utopia were utter gold.
"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

It's up there. But I say the best was a three-way tie between "Blink", "Gridlock" and "The Runaway Bride".

I generally don't the specials as part of a series, but Runaway was great as well.

In spite of that particular gem of a bad idea, the episode itself wasn't nearly as bad as it is usually made out to be.

Like quite a few of the bad episodes, it's a great concept, but could have been done so much better. I mean, pitting the Daleks' need for survival against their desire for purity and superiority, a conflict personified by Sec and his influx of human emotions, is a great idea.
Love and Monsters, I maintain, had a good idea - a story about the people once met by the Doctor and searching for answers. But we all know how that ended up...

I must be one of the few people who actually liked that story. At least they were trying to do something new and original with the Daleks...

What do you fellows think is the worst modern DW episode?
I'm sorry for all those who forgot it and wished it never to be mentioned again, but I'm going with Love and Monsters.

Love and Monsters is bad but I find it tolerable. The only episode I truly hate is The Next Doctor. It was the only episode where I actually considered stopping midway through. It was idiotic on so many levels. People complain a lot about Closing Time and Death in Heaven for their treatment of the cybermen, but The Next Doctor was their absolute lowest point. They weren't scary, threatening or even competent. Somehow it managed to turn villains that are menacing by default into a complete joke. The plot in inane and worst of all, just plain boring.

I'd have to agree with Love & Monsters. Yeuch. If Torchwood counts, Random Shoes was also pretty retch-inducing.

I don't know, but some of last season's episodes were very anticlimactic. Into the Dalek was simply woeful.
