I went through a period where I listened to a whole heap, but then I ended up listening to audiobooks instead, so I haven't managed to work my way that far into Big Finish's backlog.

Jubilee.

You know the episode "Dalek"? It was based on this audio, and is nowhere near as good. But, ah, just a work of warning: Jubilee is quite dark and messed up.

Oh yes, Jubilee. I agree completely. On both subjects. But I loved it to bits.
Also, LIVE 34! It's like Doctor Who and Welcome to Night Vale mashed up in the best of ways. And Doctor Who and the Pirates. Just... yes.

I hope for the best for John Hurt.

Also, while it feels incongruous to post this right after the last bit of news:

http://www.bbcamerica.com/anglophenia/2 ... the-queen/

Moffat is being made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

I don't know.

Moffat wouldn't be my first choice for this sort of honour, but I guess he's popular and high profile. Plus I'll admit he's written the odd good episode (Blink and Day of the Doctor particularly impressed me).

"The Empty Child" and "Blink" are both great episodes, though neither can hope to come close to the religious brilliance that "The Day of the Doctor".

To be fair, "Day" cheated.

The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances didn't much appeal to me.

Blink, though, had a great new villain and a clever, fairly logical plot (a rare gem in Moffat's work). And Day of the Doctor was a masterpiece that distilled fifty years of Doctor Who into an epic that honoured the show's past while redefining one of its most critical moments and taking the show forward. It is, quite simply, Moffat's masterpiece for Doctor Who.

I'd consider "Blink" a classic if that was the only appearance of the Weeping Angels. But they kept bringing them back, and made them lame.

I don't think they're lame even now. Some of their episodes are better written than others, but the Angels are still interesting and scary. Basically, they're the only Doctor Who monsters I'd put on par with the Daleks. Well, them and rogue Time Lords like Rassilon and the Master.
