This is incredible.

Isn't it, just?

I think Piazzolla's hugely underappreciated; though perhaps not underrated, since he's highly appreciated critically, just not broadly known by the general public (except in Argentina, where he's understandably a national icon). While it's far too soon to judge the long-term legacy of a composer who died in 1992, if there's any justice he'll be remembered as one of the giants of the second half of the 20th century. He singlehandedly transformed tango from a largely geographically specific popular music into a classical musical form of global relevance, fusing tango, jazz, and the classical training he received in Paris under Nadia Boulanger.

His two most famous pieces are probably Libertango and Adios Nonino (latter link with Piazzolla on bandoneon), but Maria de Buenos Aires, his 'tango operita', is likely his masterpiece.

If anyone's more curious:

I have his Tango Zero Hour cd, though I wasn't aware of his significance particularly, I just like tango music.

I've got some modern classical music on right now. I heard it for the first time yesterday on Pandora (Claude Debussy station) It's by Maxence Cyrin, it's called Where is my mind.

The original is way too short so this is an extended version.

"The People United Will Never Be Defeated!" by Frederic Rzewski.

Some recommendations, especially as music referring to Dutch folk songs and anthems:

"Choros 6 "Wilhelmus van Nassouwe" op. 77" by Anthon van der Horst, a grand orchestral version of the Dutch national anthem, the "William", with all fifteen verses.

"Merck toch hoe Sterck" (Notice how strongly), a Dutch "Beggars'" song from during the times of the Eighty Years' War about the Spanish siege of Bergen op Zoom.

"Piet Hein Rhapsodie" (Piet Hein Rhapsody) by Peter van Anrooy, based on the Dutch song "De Zilvervloot" (The Silver Fleet), about Dutch naval hero Piet Hein capturing the Spanish treasure fleet in the Bay of Matanzas, near Cuba.

"Laat ons juichen, Batavieren!" (Let us cheer, Batavians!), by Christian Ernst Gra(a)f. Written for the inauguration of Willem V as Stadtholder of the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands in 1766.

"Gezangen Voor Het Feest Van Den 19 December 1799 - "Hef Aan! Bataaf!" / Gezangen voor het Paaschfeest, Jezus verreezen" (Songs for the Feast of the 19th of December 1799 - Rise Up! Batavian! / Songs for the Easter Feast, Jesus Resurrected), by Christian Friedrich Ruppe, celebrating the creation of the Batavian Republic. A French vassal state that existed from 1975 until June 5, 1806 (from 1801 as the Batavian Commonwealth) when it became the Kingdom of Holland, and later merely a part of the French Empire.

Some more modern music (honestly I barely ever listen to modern music, I just have been listening to it more lately) by Thomas Adès. This piece is in a playlist, and each movement is a different video. It's called Asyla.

Yes, assuredly. Although I don't really care for that rendition of Simple Gifts. It's good, but not as earth shaking awesome as an orchestral or vocal version is.

Ah, well, a recording can only do so much.

Suffice it to say that a proper drum corps performance is almost always earth shaking when experienced live.
