huh I wrote a long module that all my campaigns have taken place in with an entire detailed history and rules and a complete list of adventures. Wonder if I should put that online... Maybe later, work in progress I suppose. Im not cheapening your job by saying I could do it, but I wouldn't mind putting it out for free or even making a little cash on the side haha

Either way I strongly advise that you get somebody who isn't a friend or relative to go over it, proofreading more than pays for itself.

I'll TG you with a link.

Tis £2,000 just for the artwork alone, the rest is to cover the costs of editing, layout, etc.

Producing a RPG book isn't cheap.

Wow it sucks that they can't make it an easier for you to publish. Too bad they weren't willing to take more risks, its not like those damn d&dminiatures don't pay for themselves 10x over, and I would imagine you would have those too.

Good idea, idk why but dice sell like crack at RPG stores, and at similar prices too.

So what games have you played? I've played many, my favorites were DnD 2nd and 3rd, Shadowrun 3rd, Legend of the Five Rings 1st, Seventh Sea 1st, Classic Battletech and its RP spinoff Mechwarriors, and finally the original White Wolf System. I've grown more fond of the newer Story Teller system as well because of its versatility but the original holds a special place.

Ah the "absent minded genius" type? yeah I see those a lot, typically with wizards or sorcerors who are like "eh I only need intelligence/charisma, who cares about wisdom". I more or less stopped playing traditional D&D, I mean I still will play but its not my favorite system. I think as they added books on top of books it really became too bloated for its own good. I didn't like 4.0 very much in the end. Honestly I think DM'ing is much simpler, there's a lot less time spent on the stats for your monsters and the like. Players have a unique way of taking a 10 minute stop at a store (in game time) and making it stretch for several hours IRL lol.

He was originally created as an NPC but the people playing the game fell in love with him and he ended up being one of my primary characters. It wasn't so much that he was absent minded, I played him as having no common sense (so if I pull this lever and everyone get's electrocuted will it happen again or will something else happen?) and he was more or less oblivious to danger or what constituted a bad idea (hey lets summon a fire elemental and put it in this iron furnace so that we can cook more efficiently). At the same time he was genius and used magic in surprising and creative ways (why cast magic missile on the dragon when you can cast it on the ceiling of the cave and cause a collapse?). The thing that made him stand out the most though was he had 37 separate knowledge skills by the time he hit level 10 and I rolled 20 on knowledge checks so often he was given a custom feat by my gaming group that allowed him to take 20 on any knowledge check once an hour. He was a glorious time wasting rambler of epic proportions with a very short attention span. There was an entire gaming session a good 3-4 hours long where the other players just asked Pattersmith questions about magical theory like how to make a fireball change colors...

I hated keeping track of those knowledge skills, I think my DM when i did a wizard just lumped large amounts of them together just so we didn't have to keep track of them all. Although i didn't like the psionics in D&D 3.5, I did like the basic "point" power purchase system as opposed to the "you get x level 0 spells, X-1 1st level spells, x-2 second level spells, and x number of evocation and conjuring spells" and so on. I just discovered that over time it seemed to slow everything down, at least for new players who had to keep checking their lists. I'm not impatient, I understood and would help, I just always wished there was a simpler way to do things for magic. And I also hated XP calculation, so I just did all the calculations far in advance and would just tell players when they leveled, and any spell/ability with an XP requirement became time-based, where say they could make one wand every x hours or sessions or whatever.

I just figured all I really needed was Dex, Con and Int. I'm not even all that squishy (+2 Con modifier), just feeble.

I've been working for years on a Wild West RPG that has steampunk elements to it but I keep changing the system.

When I made the Abjurer (his name was Pattersmith, its a fecking awesome name) I had really good rolls... he had 14 strenth, 16 constitution, 14 dex, 22 Int, 6 wis, and 12 Charisma when I was finished with him. By the time he hit hit level 20 he had a natural intelligence of 26 without modifiers, his actual score was around 33.

I've played 3.0 since it was pretty new. Moved to 3.5 when that came out.

I switched to Pathfinder a couple years back.

I've also played some Shadowrun - that's a fucking fun game right there, if you're willing to sit through for the rules.

So far I've only played Call of Ctulhu and Dark Heresy, but I like both. Unfortunately the pace has been somewhat slow since our GM lives some 400 km away from the rest of us, and now he's been in the UK for the last few months. He's getting back now though, should be new session in a couple of weeks! :D

hey, why not jus get a D&D rp going on nationstates? oh wait, forgot about nationstates not having any dice.

It's been done. You can either outsource your dice from GiantITP forums or get the DM to roll them, or use something like the roller built into the PFSRD where you can auto-e-mail the results to people.
