You're gonna have to elaborate. I don't know what "storygames" is/are.

Is this a defective term for "roleplaying" or something different altogether?

So, like a "Choose Your Own Adventure" or a non-linear Visual Novel?

I can only think of those
http://www.choiceofgames.com/

But then they made it so you have to buy the 2nd part of the story (the other ones were all free) and now I only play the ones made by other players.

Yes exactly! I'm on another site where it's community based. So I got curious about another largely active community to see what others think or know.

I get on www.chooseyourstory.com and it's free. Just community based so there's some horrid storygames but also some amazing ones.

I could never write one of those, given that it's hard for me to be totally content with a single path forward for a plot most of the time. Dealing with all sorts of alternatives, I'd be awake on nothing but caffeine pills editing and rewriting for days.

As for "playing" one, I certainly loved those breeds of Goosebumps books when I was a child, as the 90's was just an epic time for growing up all around, but I've never really had a look at a more mature example of the genre.

That's one of the great things with the site. They do have maturity ratings for storygames. There's one user that has written some uh rather colorful stories. Basically, almost need to be slightly twisted to enjoy lol.

Sounds good. And they have forums written by users with stories with tips to write your own storygames to. But, you can just read and play. If you like zombie, dead man walking is my suggestion. The guy took a year and wrote over 2000 pages for it. I'd suggest an account so you can save lol.
