Your Favorite Fictional Battle

Postby The Rebel Alliances » Sat May 11, 2013 3:10 pm

So, what is your favorite fictional battle? From Sci-Fi to Fantasy to Movies and Video Games. Which battle that never was is your favorite? Who fought in it? What side won? How did it effect the story of that universe? Is it a famous fictional battle?

My favorite Battle, while it may be cliche is the Battle of Hoth from Star Wars. As you can see in my flag, I am a fan of the Rebel Alliance. The battle of Hoth was fought in 3ABY between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire. Echo Base, the leading headquarters of the rebellion was hidden away on Hoth while Darth Vader was tasked with hunting down the Rebel Base in retaliation for the loss of the first Death Star. After an imperial probe droid did not return from the planet Darth Vader ordered the fleet to Hoth. The Imperial Admiral jumped too close to the planet alerting the Rebels to their presence. While he hoped to take them by surprise he ended up alerting the Rebellion. Darth Vader promptly killed him for his mistake and ordered ground forces to the planet to destroy the shield generator so that they could destroy the base from orbit. AT-ATs were deployed along with the 501st while delayed by the heroic stand of rebel soldiers. Eventually fought their way with superior firepower and destroyed the shield generator. Rebel pilots used snowspeeders equiped with tow cables to tie up the AT-ATs legs and have them collapse. This tactic worked well to start but were eventually forced back. Despite the massive Rebel Losses they were successful in holding the line long enough for the majority of their men and equipment to escape the grasp of the Empire. So despite the fall of the planet and the tactical military victory for the Empire it was a stratigic failure. They failed to end the rebellion in a swift stroke and much of the rebellion survived intact to fight another day.

This is a rather famous battle portrayed in games, books and most notably the movie.

So NSG, what are your favorite fictional battles?
My RP Nation is the Islamic Republic of Alamon

Yes, because playing specific video games automatically classify me as a child. Sure, why not.

But of course, I respect your opinion.

But really, you have no idea how much I was expecting a reply like that.

From Neon Genesis Evangelion, I really liked Unit-01 fighting Zeruel and how that all goes down. Ramiel was also a really cool part of the series.

Probably a tie between the Battle of the Pelenor Fields from LotR The Return of the King(Book) or The Battle of the Blackwater from A Clash of Kings.

I always preferred the Battle of the Trident that was fought during Robert's Rebellion. I know we never really have it described in detail in the book, but the thought two greatest warriors in Westeros going head-to-head always gets me excited.

Are you serious!? I'm a Star Wars fan, too, but dude, the battle between Skywalker and Kenobi was one of the most fake looking duels of all time! There was no sense of realism to it in the slightest! The greatest lightsaber duels that I've actually seen are the ones in The Old Republic trailers. Anyway, I gotta ask, what do you see in that battle that makes it your favorite?

I have yet to determine a favorite for myself. There are sooooo many to choose from . . .

My favorite fictional battle is the battle with Ganon from The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. After escaping Ganon's tower in a metroid style, It seems something is still there. You go check and Ganondorf transforms into the giant Ganon. When it shows the bosses name, all it shows is Ganon unlike the specific name all the other bosses get. He tosses the master sword away, and you are faced to fight this giant beast with these two giant knives without your sword! The whole atmosphere is amazing.
