Your quote outlines the differences between opera and musical theatre. Opera and musicals are two different things. The vagueness of the definition was one of my complaints. Does a dubstep concert count as opera?

... What the fuck are you talking about? Shakespeare has never written opera (he INSPIRED them; he wrote plays and poetry) and The Pilgrim's Progress is not originally an opera; it's a religious allegorical novellete, and... I'd hardly call the opera adaptation a good opera, though that's probably more the fault of the source than the opera.

You know what, just forget it. You're threadjacking with your ignorance of the fine arts. 8)

You said, and I quote:

Phantom sucks.

They are two things, but musicals overlap operas, so I figured it was a safe bet. That being said, it's not my specialty, so I'm willing to admit my preconceptions could be wrong. And no, I wouldn't count a dubstep concert as an opera, because there's no story in the traditional sense.

My point with Shakespeare and The Pilgrim's Progress was just that I had read the literary works that the operas were based on, not that I was saying they were operas. But that's probably irrelevant, I guess. I wasn't trying to threadjack, just... clear things up. I hate loose ends. :( And I don't want to get in a fight with you over this because you strike me as a pretty cool person. So! Back on topic.

In ye olde days, when I had a Newtype USA subscription, I first heard of The Count of Monte Cristo. Haven't seen it yet, but it seems interesting enough to add to my list of anime to watch, especially with the scifi twist. What's your opinion on it? Yea, nay, may(be)? I haven't read the book it was (loosely) based on either, so aside from Newtype's rather unhelpful summary/synopsis, I know next to nothing, and TOW has a habit of being too detailed about things so I don't want to read the article there for fear of spoilers.

Also, what is your opinion of Makoto Shinkai and his films?

To Aru Majutsu no index. I watched a few episode of To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, and it was pretty cool, but I eventually lost interest. I decided to watch Index before going at Railgun again.

A lot of people consider Railgun better than Index, but Railgun is incredibly back-dated at the moment. The Sisters arc they covered pretty early in the first season of Index is only just now being covered in Railgun.

I would say that Index is still better than Railgun. It would be nice though if there are more Misaka-Touma moments in either Index or Railgun.
