IDK haven't seen it. :\

In that case, I'll let you know how it is once I've finished it... it's done downloading, so I'll take a quick peek at it before I start on AGE.

Edit: after a quick perusal of the artbook section, I find it awesome as shit, if only because there are beastly models such as these:

Potentially good, I'd watch an anime rendition of Phantom of the Opera (one may already exist for all I know).

What opera would be best?

I would love to see a Pagliacci anime. Instead of clowns, they're pop idols that, once upon a time, role-played a love triangle until the love triangle became real. The irony would be catastrophically epic.

Which anime? The only one that matters to me right now...

The reboot of Uchuu Senkan Yamato (Space Battleship Yamato, aka Star Blazers)!

It follows the original story fairly closely, and the update in the quality of the animation is spot on.

It was available on youtube as "New Star Blazers", but might not be available any longer.

Alright... First off, Phantom sucks.

Second, that's such a vague definition it can fit anything.

Third, Phantom has never, ever been adapted into an opera. It was originally a shitty French pulp novel that got big because Andrew Lloyd Weber turned it into a mediocre musical.

Have you even watched an opera? It's barely the same goddamn thing.

Enh, difference of opinion. I liked it, myself. And it fits the definition. And:

TOW, on Phantom of the Opera, wrote:The musical opened in London's West End in 1986, and on Broadway in 1988. It won the 1986 Olivier Award and the 1988 Tony Award for Best Musical, and Michael Crawford (in the title role) won the Olivier and Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Musical. It is the longest running show in Broadway history by a wide margin, and celebrated its 10,000th Broadway performance on 11 February 2012, the first production ever to do so. It is the second longest-running West End musical, and the third longest-running West End show overall.

With total estimated worldwide gross receipts of over $5.6 billion (the highest in history) and total Broadway gross of US $845 million (surpassed only by The Lion King) Phantom is the most financially successful entertainment event to date. By 2011 it had been seen by over 130 million people in 145 cities in 27 countries, and continues to play in both London and New York.

Doesn't sound like it sucked after all. Furthermore:

TOW, on musical theatre, wrote:Although musical theatre overlaps with other theatrical forms like opera and dance, it may be distinguished by the equal importance given to the music as compared with the dialogue, movement and other elements of the works. Since the early 20th century, musical theatre stage works have generally been called, simply, musicals.

Still fits the definition, and then some.

Have you even watched an opera? It's barely the same goddamn thing.

I read The Pilgrim's Progress and several works by Shakespeare. To be fair though, they are written works that don't even fit my definition, so my answer would have to be no according to your definition, I'm guessing... unless you count space operas?

Yeah, because if everybody likes something it's automatically good. Besides, I didn't say the musical was bad; I said it was mediocre. The novel was pulp trash.

Your quote outlines the differences between opera and musical theatre. Opera and musicals are two different things. The vagueness of the definition was one of my complaints. Does a dubstep concert count as opera?

... What the fuck are you talking about? Shakespeare has never written opera (he INSPIRED them; he wrote plays and poetry) and The Pilgrim's Progress is not originally an opera; it's a religious allegorical novellete, and... I'd hardly call the opera adaptation a good opera, though that's probably more the fault of the source than the opera.

You know what, just forget it. You're threadjacking with your ignorance of the fine arts. 8)
