The 70s and 90s were both excellent.

The 80s!

The decade of Duran Duran, Genesis, Tears For Fears, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Eurythmics

Genesis were best in the 70s.

Question is way too broad.
Needs to be broken down according to genre.
As a listener to hip hop, definitely the 90s

80's, early 90's for metal.

'Tallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Overkill, Maiden, Kreator, Sodom, etc., all releasing awesome albums (Agent Orange, AJFA, Rust in Peace, Reign in Blood, Years of Decay...)

Of course, you could also argue for the 2000's-2010's, as now we have easy access to most music, and there's a revival in metal popping up (Evile, Gama Bomb, Amon Amarth, etc.)

The Nineties. Yes it may be responsible for some unpleasant current trends ultimately, but it was the time when alternative music was finally getting in the limelight too and people still had great respect for the classic artists that came before that time. This was also another time where we truly saw an explosion of new styles. I can't say much about the present decade as we are only three years into it. It's not looking good though.

I've only listened to a handful of songs from the eighties, and even less from the seventies. Point being I don't feel I haven't listen to enough music of the generations before mine, hence, cannot defend my opinion with "sauce."

Personally, I've found more music from our present time that I like, than any other decade beforehand.

The music that I like overwhelmingly comes from the 60's to the 80's but that's not to say that there aren't songs that I like from other decades (there just aren't ver many). It's also not to say that I like all the songs made from 1960-1980. For example, not a fan of Queen For The Night or Soldier Boy... both from the 60's.

I don't really listen to pre-70s music, so here is my subjective ranking of the decades based on the genres I like.

1. 90s
2. 00s and 10s
3. 80s
4. 70s

Each decade has its gems and shouldn't be defined just by the mainstream music at the time.
