Which Decade Had The Best Music?

Postby Gaiaopolis » Sun Apr 21, 2013 3:44 pm

I'm thinking either the 60s or 70s.
White, slightly asian, liberal, eco-socialist and atheist.
Political Compass: Left- 7.88, Libertarian- 5.59
Pro: Democratic Socialism, Social liberalism, LGBTQ rights, choice, atheism, humanitarian interventionism, environmentalism, semi-vegetarianism, legalization of cannabis, Classic Rock, swag.

Meh: Communism at it's very best, the Democratic Party, prostitution, legalization of hard drugs, centrism.

Anti: Unregulated capitalism, conservatism, authoritarianism and totalitarianism, homophobia, organized religion, theism, political apathy, consumer culture, stalinism, corruption.

It depends. I like some music from the 70s, some from the 80s, some from the 90s, and a drastically lesser - but still significant - amount from 2000 onward.

I'm not one to objectively judge, but if I must I'd settle on the 70s from a pure musical depth standpoint.

2000 had some fucking awesome music, especially in the genres I like. Even today, there's awesome stuff being made, you just have to look for it.
Like you've always had to.
Anyways, to answer the OP, while most of the music I listen to is from the 90's and onward, I wouldn't consider one decade having necessarily better music than any other. I don't know enough to make such an assessment.

And then my favorite group of all time,Nirvana.

If you were a rock fan you wouldn't really care what decade your music came from. Who the hell is a fan of an entire genre as broad as rock, anyway? If you were a trad rock fan then you would be really digging the 50s.

lol

Judging music by decade is really rather arbitrary and insignificant, and associating music by decade is, too. I guess different modern musical eras begin and end within a decade and that's the closest thing to it, but subjective judgement really isn't something I would apply. There're always gems and shit no matter where ya look.
If nothing exists, where did this anger come from?

Every decade except for the horribly bad 80s had great music. Most popular music is horribly overproduced corporate junk these days, but there's always those little bands and singers hiding, waiting to be found. But if I had to choose, It'd be a tie between the 60s and 00s. Why? Because Beatles and dubstep.
