"If you don't like it, don't watch it" is a shit claim made in order to alleviate criticism directed towards shit projects, it is an argument that can only exist in any feasibility with the death of critical thought. (Especially coming from people whose favorite movie is Transformers Revenge of the Fallen)

Also, Argh!

That's actually not what I said.

Generally when people don't like something, they don't watch it. I for example, don't care much for the modern Young and the Restless. As conniving as that rascal Walter could be back in the 90's, I take no real interest in the current iteration. So I don't watch it.

You, for someone with such avowed hate for the shows, still watch them as faithfully as the fans do. And on top engage in this passive aggressive critique, like anybody actually gives enough of crap about a minor Easter egg of Guinans bar being on 10 Forward Street. Hell I watch the show just as faithfully and I didn't even know what you were referring to without googling it. (Never mind the fact that it's not explicitly stated in the show that's where the name came from, it's just kind of a nudge and a wink deal.)

I'm starting to think you actually enjoy the show deep down, you're just so committed to hating it you have to fixate on these inane details to keep up the bit.

Also, Revenge of the fallen is not my favorite scifi movie. Obviously it's The Last Knight.

Ive checked out on the Kwan story line in the Halo series, just dont care about her that much any more lol. She was good in the first two episodes with the chief, but now that she is on her own and seemingly wanting to continue the insurrection and stuff i just dont care. The chief and the stuff going on with his memories and the forerunner artefacts is much more interesting, as is the Covenant storyline we have seen bits and pieces of and the newer stuff with Kai, one of the other Spartans.

My biggest issue overall in the show though is they have not done a good job at all in showing that Humanity and the UNSC is at war with the Covenant and the scale of said war. You get the initial covenant attack in the opening episode, some talk here and there about being at war with the Covenant for decades etc, often in the background but thats it.

I imagine budget limits are largely to blame. Building a war that fully captures the scope of thr war like that would require many scenes like the battle over coruscant from ROTS. That movie had a budget of 113 million for 2hrs and 20 minutes.

Reports differ but Halo seems to have a budget of around 10 mil per episode, each being 60 minutes long.

I dont mean massive scale battles every episode because i know thats not possible but even showing the effect the war has on the UNSC. Show ships and vehicles coming back damaged or battered, marines looking demoralised or with dirty looking armour, more news footage etc or reports about the war. Or even just more people talking about the war and the atrocities the Covenant have done. In the second episode i think it was you could see someone listening to a broadcast about the Covenant destroying some colony but it was a blink and you miss it kind of thing.

Hopefully they show more of this in the later episodes.

I talked about it before the other week im near certain but i will give the show credit for its visual designs. The marines look great, the UNSC and Covenant weapons look good, the vehicles look top notch, the ship designs and CGI for them are solid. The Covenant designs so far have been a little bit different but still recognisable for the races they are meant to be, Elites, Prophets, Hunters etc and i believe Jackals and Grunts are gona appear too based on the trailers i remember seeing.

It looks like Halo which i will give them props for.

There's a lot of issues there I'm realizing. Supposedly thr series takes places in 2552, just as the games do, which is the year the war ends. But it starts on Madrigal which was glassed in 2528. In 2552 the Covenant had invaded Earth, and the UEG is in tatters, meanwhile in the show the Covenant are still unknown to most of the human population, (insurrectionists are still around fighting UNSC and still a major pronlem for the UNSC and dont know about the Covenant.) Reach is unmolested, and combat is limited to the outer Colonies.

So there's some Continuity issues there where the show claims to be at the end of the war like games were, but so far presents itself as the beginning salvos.

I understand its an alternate timeline so maybe the covenant war started later as opposed to the game timeline but im near certain they have mentioned the war has been going on for decades, so that would line up with the war beginning in the early 2520s like it does in the games

As i said before hopefully it gets better at this later.

Agreed - we're already spending so much time on stuff that isn't covenant/halo stuff, her self-righteous-teenager thing has gotten really old. I can only assume with this talk about "mystics" and "destiny" in the latest episode her clan is going to end up having something to do with the Forerunners too, but like - can we get there sooner? Please?

Also does anyone else think the number of butts we've seen in the show is weird? I've counted five so far.

Picard's dad was actually not as abusive as it seems, the mom was mentally ill, he took the form of a therapist for Picard while he was in a coma from Soong running him over with a Tesla, there may be more information upcoming to shed more light on that and potentially still change that conclusion, Stewart's way of saying "Father" is amazing, Tallinn's confirmed to be the T'Mir to Laris's T'Pol (unless they're the same person), Rios spilled the beans to the doctor and her son (dropping another Star Trek IV reference on the way) about the *La Sirena* and literally beams them there, Picard said "Quantum Leap", Borg Queen Jurati is probably going to try and pull a First Contact forty years earlier, the El-Aurians were in a cold war with the Q and hammered out a peace deal which involves summoning them with a magic genie bottle which somehow contains the moment of that meeting via an induced quake and unholy screeching, Picard's inner psyche contains a haunted castle with demons in it, and Ducane has a second job as an FBI agent.

this episode was a trip and a half

You know, I gotta weigh in here: Do you just enjoy picking fights when people don't like something you do? Someone talks bad about a show you like, you give them the "Don't watch if you don't like" spiel. If someone doesn't like something and quits watching it (Like me for instance), you hound them with "You should really watch the show."

I will say the I'm digging everybody in the show so far. Bokeem Woodbine is always an upgrade, and I could watch Burn Gorman psychotically chew the scenery all day.

Sarah Paulson is honestly, a bit more reserved than I remember Halsey being, but we'll see where that goes.

edit 1: Nice to see the caved to fan react and blued Cortana up.

Alright now that in more caught up, I can see where the pacing is going here. They're spinning new elements, and some key events have changed (like Madrigal not being glassed by covenant in the 20's and the Rubble not being a neutral ground of Insurrectionist and Kig-Yar renegades, instead just being a sort of space madrinpoor.), but much of the elements are still the same. Very likely were gonna end season one with the Fall of Reach, which as we all know is what the Autumn was escaping at the beginning of H:CE. So most likely were not gonna get onto the Halo Instalations until season 2. Most likely the last scene of season 1 being Keyes and Cortana on the Autumn bride and a wide establishing shot of the Halo.

As an aside, are we doing spoilers on this one? I mean it's a new show technically, but it's Halo...ya know?

I'm only doing spoilers for show-specific stuff, myself. This is also about where I'm at with the show - it's a fun ride, if sort of weirdly paced, and the characters are fun. I still wish they'd ditch the Madrigal rebellion plot though, there's just nothing there we haven't seen a thousand times before except Vinsher's bare ass (yes I still think that's weird sue me).

The
Spartans messing with and bonding with Keyes
was the highlight of the last episode for me. Believable, fun, and moves things along.

Fair enough
I thought it was actually kind of brilliant choice for Kai to go from stoic to socially awkward dork. John is handling the new emotions as masterfully as the Master Chief should, but Kai is running around like jack skellington singing "what is this?!" Hopefully the rest of Silver Team take the plunge (of the knife)

Also damn Burn Gorman got wirey for this role. Like, I didn't expect him to be shredded like that.

I might pick up the show when I finish working through DIS Season 4...barely know anything about Halo lore in general, so I'd be going in with a mostly fresh perspective on that world in general, which could be interesting.

The problem isn't the Lore or even the deviations really. the problem is it's trying to be something that halo is not. A review I just watched made the odd valid point that had kind of thought as well that the show (along with a lot of media) is too influenced by game of thrones, and the writers aren't good enough to handle that kind of storytelling. This multiple story, political intrigue stuff were getting, isn't what Halo is. I mean that stuff exists with the whole Covernant religion stuff and the Darkside of the Spartan program, but story is centered on the Spartans (and occasional ODST) in the backdrop of this intergalactic war. All this intrigue occurs, as a well as impacts the MC, tangentially, while the story is a classic "Heroes Journey." Instead they moved that up to the forefront, and because they can't do it well enough, are losing out on a lot of what makes Halo, well Halo.

Halo is really slow and Kwan’s scenes are awkward because they don’t seem to connect to the Master Chief’s at all. It definitely doesn’t feel like the UNSC is actually in a desperate war against an overpowering foe. The lack of action is becoming a problem.

But hopefully the show is building towards a surprise and devastating attacking on Reach. At least I’ll forgive it if that’s the plan.

Maybe the show will get to Halo, but they’re so obsessed with divulging from the games that I’m not sure they’d do anything with it. Given how the show has been, we’d probably see 4+ episodes of characters arguing who should control the ring complete with emotional flashbacks rather than an ongoing fight on the ring.

A very good link right here.

Oh sorry i was in a rush with my earlier posts and forgot to spoiler it, ill do it from now on for big stuff that happens in the show

Current "ST" writers don't know that, so I'm just spreading the message for the rest of the community.

Also, Io is a volcanic hellscape that is probably the last place humans should go. This bugged me about Babylon 5 too.

It's pretty clear that nobody involved with Picard ever actually watched TNG. They saw the movies and skimmed a couple of "Top 10 Episodes" lists, none of which ever explained 10 Forward, so yes, they thought they were giving us a clever origin story for how the bar on the Enterprise got that "weird" name..

This is also how we got Data and Picard being one true loves in Season 1. Obviously not a thing at all in the show, but in the movies they were the most prominent characters, thus got the most screentime, thus obviously their deep, eternal, transcendent bond was the single most profound and important relationship of either of their lives.

Though Picard does seem to have gotten over it pretty quickly.

Most recent halo episode was pretty fucking solid in my view, not gona lie

Just to get it out of the way, the fight at the end of the episode was really well done, the grunts and jackals were awesome (I really want to see Jackals with energy shields and swords in a game now, that was a great idea, and i believe happened once or twice in the books), the Brute was also neat even if he was only there for a few seconds. The Banshee ram tho..... *chefs kiss*

We also saw very little of Kwan this episode, which is really good as i dont care that much about her any more. Instead we got a lot on the chief, which was good (bar that moment he tried to kill Halsey, like i get what they were going for but it was soo awkward looking lmao, could have been done much better). The scenes of him being kidnapped as a child and being replaced with the clones is basically what happened in the books, so nice to see that retained. Cortana also continues to be one of my favourite parts of the show so far, they have done a good job with her soo far.

We also got to see more of Miranda this episode and im beginning to like her more, same with Keyes, i like that he is getting some more screen time now. I also like Kai in this episode, i think they did a good job of showing her being overwhelmed by the new emotions when the marines were getting slaughtered around her and how it just caused her to shut down and panic. I wasnt sure on it at first but i am warming up to the idea of the spartans having their emotions suppressed and slowly coming to terms with them.

I assume now with Makee being left behind, its to gather more info on the chief as well as maybe to find Reach? That way they can hit it and destroy it to cripple the UNSC. If i remember correctly in the books i think they managed to tag a ship of some kind as it retreated so even after multiple jumps they could still track it, then in the game its because the Elites were searching for forerunner artefacts.
More like this please, this was great.
