I personally cannot wait to see Beckett Mariner and D'vana Tendi again. Lower Decks is currently my favorite Star Trek series.

the mistake is that stories should have to matter to humans.
the niche saved my life when i was a teen 60 years ago.

everything that's been made after ds9 and viger, is just an entirely different universe.
a parallel universe with some of the same names of characters, but otherwise really unrelated to it.

i want the niche of fiction about science back
doesn't need to be called star anything

b5 was pretty good. there is so much potential for good story telling in completely non-human environments.
i think people are nuts not to be a bigger market for it.

zootopia wasn't exactly a failure either.
i know i'm wierd, i focus more on environments then characters,
on the goodness of strangeness and that there is no honest goodness in wishing to be feared.

i want to see places i can't get to on a city bus, and without a lot of fat human heads in the way of seeing them.
and techno eye candy, without having to be about some kind of war bovine waste product.

technology respecting nature's diversity and in harmony with it.
and as for "not there yet" technologies, this is what inspires engineering and even art students, to put their hearts into developing it.

Haven't watched anything of NuTrek more recent than Beyond aside from assorted videos (ranging from critical/neutral/supportive of it), so I may be incorrect about what I'm about to remark next, but PIC seems to have a strange lack of DS9 influence thus far.

There's a lot from TNG (clearly), VGR, and ST:2009, but apparently not much from the Dominion War. The darker elements of it would make a lot of sense if they were reflecting more the impact of the war, recovery, balance-of-power scrambling, spats with the still-intact Breen and Tzenkethi, etc. Although the whole rogue-secret-1000plus-year-old-Romulan-organization-seemingly-not-trying-to-murder-TOS/TNG-androids-but-deciding-to-set-Mars's-now-flammeable-atmosphere-on-fire-with-hacked-androids-synths business certainly could have set a dampener on any post-war victory optimism.

Although going back to TNG, maybe Spot pulled off some Perry-esque strategies for repelling the Zhat Vash from murdering Data.

So I just watched Plato's Stepchildren for the first time as part of my first full watch-through of TOS (last pre-2009 series I haven't entirely seen yet). All I knew of it was being a vaguely 'bad' episode with Kirk neighing while a dwarf rides on his back and then 'kisses' Uhura, so didn't really know what to expect going into it (only recognized it being 'the' one while reading the description before starting it).

It was, something.
In the first third or so, I started perceiving it as being some sort of weird comedy or satire (the dwarf actor, the Greek aliens being unable to treat a cut properly, the delirious injured one throwing around furniture and the Enterprise as part of his convulsions, them describing their backstory, the villainous objective of keeping McCoy and only McCoy for treating, etc.)

Then for the middle bit with the first round of humiliation, we of course got into them forcing Kirk and Spock around with the theatrics (horsey bit, the intense arguments over them forcing emotion out of Spock, etc.) for the sole purpose of convincing McCoy to stay. Slowly morphed from being a weird comedy from my POV to being more serious as things progressed past that into the interlude and the second round of humiliation.

(Spock does his equivalent of violently trashing a room in rage by crushing a vase)

Not sure what to say about that second round and the finale, unsure if I can give it justice by articulating it, but sure is interesting (especially that bit of Spock's swan song, the forced activities between Kirk/Spock/Chapel/Uhura, the whips and hot iron, Kirk and Mr. Big Bad ping-ponging Alexander back and forth with the knife once the magic injection kicks in and then Kirk forcing Mr. Big Bad out of his seat with mind tricks).

Still processing the episode in my mind and working out whether I liked it or not, but it was certainly unique.

Also just realized that I somehow skipped over Spock's Brain, I'm sure it'll be fun from what I heard about it.

TOS certainly has odd twists. Near the end of "Requiem for Methuselah", Flint makes the Enterprise disappear.

At first, I assume he cloaked it or sent it a thousand light-years away or something.

But no, he's shrunk it somehow and beamed it down to his palace with plans to store it in suspension for a couple millennia.

What a show.

You know, Gowron wasn't wrong about the invasion of Cardassia. Would have saved the Federation a lot of early losses if the Klingons assumed control of Cardassia.

I personally would like to know what has become of the Founders. I know that there are scattered non-canon stories regarding them, but I would like to see some canon representation. Do the Founders have a Dominion ambassador to the Federation? The Changelings are prejudiced against humanoids, but what about non-corporal or partially corporal species or other species that shapeshift to any degree? Some of these species are members or allies with the Federation. What about holographic life, or technological life that can simply build a new body and transfer their minds to it? Is the Dominion going to share its technological knowledge? How far reaching was the Dominion's territory? Will the exposure to Odo and other cultures lead to the Changelings taking on individual names?

They have dogs that duplicate damn near any kind of furniture.

I always had the impression that if the local area of the Alpha/Beta Quadrants we've seen was a region of competing balance of power politics like Europe, the area of the Gamma Quadrant that the Bajoran Wormhole connected to was like East Asia, with the Dominion being the overwhelming superpower that all the other civilizations in the vicinity were basically centered upon. Taking the analogy further, the Dominion was almost certainly equivalent to all or most of the Alpha/Beta Quadrant powers in size in the same way that China eclipses most European countries (excluding Russia), considering that several waves of expeditionary forces consolidating in the Cardassian Union would've been more or less enough to defeat the Federation and Klingons if it wasn't for an Out of Context intervention in the wormhole.

Revisiting the Dominion decades after the war would certainly be interesting, as well as exploring the wider Gamma Quadrant in the same way Voyager went clear across different regions of the Delta Quadrant. I haven't watched it yet, but PIC apparently ignoring the Dominion War is definitely annoying. Seeing the aftermath of the war itself in the coming decades is the source for most of my interest in a post-Nemesis series!

There's also plenty of unexplored space still in the outer reaches of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, considering the Federation is only a measly 8,000 light-years across IIRC and the other Alpha/Beta powers we've seen are not much bigger and likely jammed up near each other when taking the whole galaxy into account. Not to mention that hint from VOY's finale of an apparently hostile civilization somewhere in the Delta or Beta Quadrants.

Then there is the Borg lurking in the Delta Quadrant...if they sent a cube to Romulan space in the 2380s (years after Voyager) returned, they're certainly still around and have probably repaired their transwarp network. Would be neat if a explanation for the Queen was shoved in there to make them a hive mind again instead of zombies ordered about by a "witch queen".
