There's a lot of mind raping in Star Trek...

There's also that scene in Nemesis when the Reman penetrates Troi's mind and then she did it right back (although the latter was arguably more justified).

...and this also just reminded me of that time the Doctor was totally useless in helping Harry Kim escape from being sexually harassed, in contrast to Neelix.

Also, when Trip was impregnated, T'Pol was harassing everyone male while on that virus-induced Pon Farr, etc. etc.

Dammit Berman!

Lightheartedly, something I've often said to my friends is that I'd absolutely love to see Gilbert Gottfried take on a guest role as a Ferengi character; it almost seems strange to me that this never eventuated and, alas, I think the opportune time for such a thing has long since passed. He was in a surprising amount of cartoon VA roles at the very least well into my childhood, so perhaps there's still and outside bet that he'll turn up as such in that new Nickelodeon thing, sans the physical effects :P

So on that note, who would you all consider to be your top picks for potential/fantasy casting? Is there any celebrity or actor that you think would fit right into a certain role, or conversely is there someone who you think could explore an interesting new angle with their acting style? I've not read much of the apocryphal media available, so those more familiar might be able to pin somebody to an interesting character from thereabouts too.

P.S. Ben Shapiro as a logic extremist would be a fitting parody casting, as has also come up before. I'm sure something of the sort must be floating around YouTube.

That suggestion is null and void, on account of the entire concept of the Ferengi needing to be thrown into the nearest black hole.

I guess its an easier (?) way of showing violation of someone against their will than actual physical rape.

I just finished watching Lower Decks, and I have to say I absolutely loved it. Enjoyed it more than Picard and Discovery put together (which is not all that difficult), and it has definitely been put together by people who absolutely love Trek, with just the right amount of good-natured ribbing of the franchise.

The hyperactivity of the characters, as has been mentioned, was a bit jarring at the beginning, but I soon got used to it.

Lowered Drek, I have nothing but vitriol for. The animation is oversaturated, and is fairly generic besides. Has problems with depth perception at places. Combine that with characters who have no indoor voice and maybe 1 personality trait each and stories which wouldn’t engage a 10 year old, and you have why I am not letting my niece anywhere near modern animation. My kin deserves better and so does yours.

Wait, back up, "Picard had a good premise"? The decline and (set up for the) fall of the Federation, an organization built on the mutual trust, assistance, defense, and betterment of all of its member races + humanity's defining achievement among the galactic timeline and the one thing Star Trek most prominently focuses on and is known for is a good premise?

Lower Decks isn't good Star Trek (yet), but it's not anywhere close to "hey guess what all your hopes for a bright future are in vain and the human race sucks ass and enslaves sentient lifeforms and lets basically a whole race of people bite the dust because a planet they liked got a boo-boo" bad. I mean, its colorful, at least. How long has it been since Star Trek had a color other than blue?

Lower Deck is fine. You don't like it that's your prerogative. But there's a fine line between not liking something and bullying other people who do.

So posting a link to a mocking video clip is bullying now...

When you do it in response to someone just saying that
they like something, yeah.

Bullying is getting punched in the face in 4th grade because the big kid who was held back a grade doesn't like your haircut.

I swear, the internet has so diluted the term.

Um no, violence is not the only qualifying aspect of bullying.

Um no, violence is not the only qualifying aspect of bullying.

So you do acknowledge that it is indeed a qualifying aspect, even if not the only one, correct?

Moving on...

I don't know why a clip from Discovery was in my recs, but I clicked anyway for David Cronenberg and his ridiculous glasses.

Lowered Drek isn't the state of modern animation.

It's the state of modern adult animation, based off of the success of shows such as The Simpsons and Family Guy. As for some reason nowadays the only type of shows aimed adults in the West has to be sitcoms.
