I don't care about sets being redressed, I was more annoyed by the half-assed CGI on the Zheng He, and the fact that they just cut and pasted it a hundred times.

How did DS9, with 90's CGI and a shoestring budget, have more convincing fleets than STP?

Okay first, I'll definitely put up that cost saving and laziness was a big part in this, but also I think it goes hand in hand with the mindset change in the Federation. Pre Dominion War, Starfleet operated a lot like the Victorian Era British Navy, primarily concerned with exploration and discovery than combat arms. Which led to the fleets of largely cobbled together fleets of ships that aren't principally designed for combat, rather than dedicated warships ready to fight. Compare this to the Jem'Hadar, fleets which pretty much had 3 ship classes that were mass produced.


The fleet Riker commands isn't a cobbled together task force of whatever ships happened to be within range, this is a dedicated defense fleet. Its not there to scan gaseous anomalies, test a new warp core, or transport colonists. It's there to kick ass until their nacelles get tired. Given the singular purpose, the singular make up of the fleet is understandable.

Liking things isn't logical, you unbelievable maroon. You can't argue someone into or out of liking something any more than you can argue a rock into the ocean. You can argue about dodgy CGI or repetitive visual effects design or flat acting or the many (many, many, MANY) questionable writing choices made, but there's no "win" condition here. This isn't a debate where one side gets to win, because it's ultimately not based in facts, because liking things isn't logical.

Absorbing our posts without being "convinced" doesn't mean that nuTrek's fans are right and you're wrong, it just means that you've been a brick wall with delusions of being a master debater.

You don't have to like Discovery or any of the other shows (a relief to you, I'm sure), but nothing we say is going to affect your opinion on it. Instead, your relentless Redditposting will just get people with actual things to say to post less. So.. well done? Go you?

Anyway, back on the original topic, I had the same knee-jerk "eww" reaction as most people did when I heard about the Nicktoon series, but what if they use it as an excuse to go all in on some of the crazy shit they never had the balls to do on the show? Insane Janeway, giant viruses, Dr Chaotica stuff. Could be fun at least.
