Ironically, the show that kind of takes the piss out of star trek, holds closer to the spirit of Star Trek more than the current properties that are actually supposed to.

It's like the Orville all over again.

If you know you can't get into a discussion without resorting to logical fallacies and personal attacks/ad homs, then the person you're talking to isn't the one with the problem.

Congrats on your newly found understanding of yourself though.

Here's precisely why. You make an ad hominem attack and then piss and moan that they might he leveled against you.

Run along now, you're not worth my time.

A. I've never made an ad hom attack against you. The only times ad homs happen here are when your argument starts faltering, as can be seen with this very discussion right here.
B. Thank you for proving my point in no less than 1 sentence. :) I think that's a new record.

That's an incredibly low bar though, the equivalent of pointing out that COVID isn't as bad for you as Ebola or Rabies. Strictly speaking it's true, but you wouldn't really want to get any of them.

Perhaps. Again I personally think Trek is at its best when it steps away from the propaganda fluff films about how awesome the future is and explores the, for lack of a better word, imperfections there in. LDs does that pretty well, while also maintaining the "evolved sensibility" of the future. like the engineer's whole plot arc in the second episode where he's trying new career paths. He expects them all to take it personally and be mad at him but the overwhelming response he gets is "Outstanding! Gotta be true to yourself!"

Despite being a sitcom the show seems to be taking the tack of exploring social norms and interactions in Starfleet, in sort of a "Somethings evolve, while some things will never change" take. Just like they were scribbling mom jokes on the bathroom walls in Pompeii, we still joke about inane stuff 400ish years in the future.

Are you ever going to argue against this fact or just conveniently ignore it every time it's brought up because you don't have an actual argument?

New haven america wrote:
Vassenor wrote:
So what makes DSC and PIC threats to Rod's vision, but the darker parts of DS9 weren't?

Well, I've been over this dozens of time now with you now but you conveniently ignore any explanation given, so we'll just make it as short as possible to save valuable time.

DS9: Thinky Thinky Hopeful Sci-Fi
STD and STP: Shooty Shooty Angery Grimdark "Sci-Fi"

Though, in this case Star Trek Lowered Standards isn't Angery Grimdark, it's mocking the franchise and its ideals by making the person who exemplifies the original ideas of ST (Boimler) a complete and total useless dunce while making Mariner (The character who's seen as competent and in control) the representation of Kurtztrek's nihilistic, depressing, and anti-science ideals, basically Michael Burnham 2.0.

Don't know why I'm telling you this, seeing as how you don't have any actual argument and will just run away again, as you've been doing for the past 6 months.

I skipped over the "didn't" in your quote on accident and didn't even flinch. That's how far this franchise has fallen.

Again, While I see the similarities I wouldn't say its a 1 to 1 conversion. Mariner strikes me more as mix of Tom and B'llana. Unlike Rick who is a supergenius and cares about nothing, She's gifted, experienced, and genuinely cares about people. but she also had the misfortune to grow up under two Starfleet big wigs, who are tight by the book screws.

The guy (can't think of his name) isn't really a morty clone. He's competent, educated and enthusiastic, he's just green. Kind of a mix between Bashir and Wesley.

Orion girl is basically Science officer Tasha Yarr, cyborg dude is a mix of Data/Spock/Barclay.

Maybe not endearing to you. Sure he doesn't have Bashir's suave "un-genetically modified (because that hasn't been written yet) city slicker brilliance who doesn't get the frontier yet," charm. He has the young "I wanted to do this my whole life, but all I've ever seen is the inside of a book and in realizing holy shit the universe is a crazier place than I ever imagined" charm.

Bashir was top of his class (or would have been if he hadn't purposefully gotten a 99 on the final) and his fish out of water story was learning the frontier is different from center of the federation.

Boimler is the typical Boot LT fresh out of the academy with a ton of book smarts, but doesn't know his dick from his asshole when it comes to how things actually work. However, he's got spirit and dedication.

As a vet who saw a lot of LTs make the transition from dipshit to decent officer, I dig it.

also come one there are some genius jokes. Like the Opening sequence being the standard ship traveling through multiple glorious space shots while facing disaster on each one , and then stumbling upon a battle between the romulans and the borg and just being like "well fuck that"

Tom and/or B''lana never sat around getting ramen all over a shuttle control panel or getting piss drunk while on duty.

Yeah, no. These people are archetypes of a crappy sitcom, not Star Trek.

Genius jokes.

Okay, now I'm convinced you're just messing with us.

No Paris just got himself thrown in prison and B'llana dropped out of the academy and joined a terrorist organization.

That's kind of the point of "Lower Decks." It's not about the Picard's and Sisko's out there, it's about the other every day StarFleet personnel who don't get noticed because everyone is too worried va8ut the senior staff.

There really isn't much difference, in terms of character archtypes.
