I watched the SF debris reviews to get the abridged. it's still like a root canal but at least with anesthetic. uncomfortable, could be worse.

C'mon, don't you remember all the times Sisko used to walk around like, "These fucking Dominion dudes are like totally fucking wack, bro, but this fucking Defiant is off the hizzle fo fucking shizzle!"

But you're correct, Kurtzmann has completed his mission of turning Star Trek into disposable generic sci-fi schlock, with a sprinkling of buzzwords and aesthetics to milk the nostalgia.

It was like having an ice pick slammed into my ears.

There's no going back from this. This is serious. Kurtzman is a grave and mortal threat to the foundation of Star Trek and something must be done to protest his work. Imagine how Roddenberry would react seeing his work so undermined?

He's talked before about how he wants to inspire younger people with Star Trek, and what can be more inspirational than nihilism and torture porn and having everyone say 'fuck' every five minutes to show how hip and edgy ALEX KURTZMAN'S Star Trek is, not like all that boring old shit with the all the 'optimism' and 'emotionally stable and articulate adults'.

I'm furious. I'm not even joking, Kurtzman drek makes me emotional in a way I've never felt before. Not because of any ideas portrayed. Not the way old Trek made you emotional because of its story or its characters. Not the way the Inner Light or the Siege of AR-558 or Daedalus ever did.

What's worse? Chabon revels in it. He wants this reaction. He said so in his "Picard" interviews. I want to deny it from him, but how can I when perhaps my favorite fictional universe is slaughtered before my eyes?

Secret Hideout is a menace to Star Trek. An actual, existential threat to the legacy Trek has worked its hardest for the last half-century to build up. CBS keeps him in the reins for whatever reason even though it seems more and more people are turning their back on NuTrek. It's like they want to fuck over the entire Trek fanbase.

This is why it's important to support fan works that stay true to the old Trek legacy.

Star Trek Continues, the upcoming Axanar fan film, Star Trek New Voyages, and a number of other films made by fans who just want to be a part of the universe they love. What's even better? These supposedly "amateur" fan films are better than any NuTrek shows Secret Hideout has spawned.

Making out support known for these people is so, so important, especially with CBS looming threateningly over the fanbase and threatening legal action against anyone who doesn't follow a strict set of rules when making fan films. I urge you all to check them out on YouTube if you don't know about them already (though I assume you already do keep up with them).

Links here for anyone not aware:

- Star Trek New Voyages (Phase II) on YouTube

- Ares Studios on YouTube, responsible for the upcoming Axanar fan film (along with extensive documentation of the behind the scenes processes

- Star Trek Continues on YouTube (with the late, great Grant Imahara as Hikaru Sulu)

- Star Trek: Horizon film, as created by TK2 Films

And there are so many more I'm not listing here, please, please check them out. They carry on the legacy of Star Trek in a way Kurtzman never could.

Yeah, I'm sorry. But even so, it's real disheartening to see the state that Trek is in these days. I'd just prefer people recognize that there are better alternatives to what Kurtzman is peddling.

You know like, those shitty episode of R&M that add nothing to the show and are just there to fill out airtime? Or the crappy meme jokes like Pickle Rick?

Yeah, that's what Star Trek Lowered Standards feels like, and that's not surprising because it was made by the less talented of R&M's 2 main writers.

"I never liked Star Trek, it never inspired me."

There it is.

And yet he's Trek's head honcho now. Why does he have to take control of something he so very clearly doesn't understand and seems to actively hate, instead of letting some optimistic, understanding fans take a shot at the director's chair?

Imagine little 6-year-old Kurtzman in the theater at the screening of The Motion Picture, while everyone else is screaming and cheering at the reveal of the beautiful new refit Enterprise after, like a decade, with Goldsmith's score perfectly seasoning the air, and he's just quietly mumbling under his breath "This is booooring, I hate this, you'll see what yooouuu get for making me sit here and watch this stupid booooring movie..."

And then he grows up and lives out his fantasy and makes NuTrek just to get back at Gene.

I still remember when Voyager got the kind of hate Disco and Picard are getting now. :lol2:

Honestly, I'm just enjoying the new stuff. Disco, in true Trek form, started off a little wobbly but corrected itself fairly quickly, and while Picard has some pacing issues, it was enjoyable TV, which is all I really want from, you know, TV.

Abramsverse can still get fucked though.

And it seems to me that cryptocurrency and NFTs and such suddenly have a whooooole lot of shovel salespeople.
