Man, Ed has been having a rough couple of episodes.
His security chief leaves last episode, this one his girlfriend who was actually a Krill in disguise leaves.
Bad stretch for that guy.

Also after the tragedy that is TLJ I can imagine they wouldn’t have high hopes for ST at the moment

TBH, sci-fi that isn't SW hasn't been doing so well lately.

Blade Runner, Annihilation, ST Beyond, etc... all underperformed and one was even considered "Too smart for audiences" and got thrown up onto Netflix.

That... that's not the point.

Also, Blade Runner 2049 was fantastic, still not the point though.

Yeah I loved the new one. Honestly any movie with huge set pieces and spectral synth will win with me.

but the original is completely over hyped. 2049 didn’t live up to expectations because they all had this inflated sense of value. The expectations were based on the idea that BR was a classic that everyone loved. It may have been good in the 80’s but it does not hold up.

True, but this might be the most trek episode yet. It’s a classic Picard episode

That sounds dangerously like you're praising a JJ film. I thought that wasn't allowed in this fandom.

Doesn't quite gel with what I saw especially around the STID release. And indeed to this day.

The Abramsverse sucks :p

It beats STD primarily because 1. It had the decency to be an alternate timeline, 2. Bright generic action beats monotone grimderp every time.

I've praised ST09 and Beyond dozens of times here, because they're genuinely enjoyable.

STD o the other hand, is joyless, grimdark, edgy, and completely got rid or ST's optimism. Meanwhile JJ's films are light, have enjoyable action, and still have ST's optimism.
