Was rewatching "Tapestry" and finally asked something: Do you think any of it happened? Like did Picard really get a second chance from Q? Or was it just a grievously injured man hallucinating?

Apparently CBS is making an animated Star Trek comedy for their streaming service called "Lower Decks"

I'm kind of both cautiously critical and intrigued by this.

I can only think of the old Family Guy skits with Star Trek and grin.

There was also the episode "Lower Decks" that was honestly one of the best episodes of TNG despite the main cast taking a backseat in the whole affair.

Fifty minutes of early Star Trek wears me out, but I was eager to jump to Part 2 of The Menagerie. It made me much more interested in watching all the rest of TOS. It was a nice couple of episodes.

I only ever watched 1 episode of TOS from start to finish, even the couple others that had an interesting premise just entirely failed to interest me.

It is, similar premise. There was actually a bit of controversy about that when they came out as some people accused DS9 of being partially plagiarised from Babylon 5 as the creator of it approached the network that aired DS9 for Babylon 5, but they didnt go for it, so then after Babylon 5 came out and then DS9 came out and they had a quite similar premise some people scratched their heads like "eh somethings off here" but the creator didnt accuse them of stealing stuff from him, he was fine with it iirc

First season is a bit weak at times, but it does get better. Seasons 2 and 3 are my personal favourites. Season 5 is probably the weakest, but thats down to the fact they didnt know they would get a fifth season, so most stories were wrapped up at that point.

The Gathering is different from the rest of the show, its got a bit of a different vibe and is a bit slow and even things like music and prosthetics and make up is different. And in all honesty i think its the weakest part of the series, you wouldnt really need to watch it before the first season either, you could jump straight in on it and ignore it if you want.

If you want to do it chronologically though you could follow this viewing order i found online:

Image

Its probably the best way to experience Babylon 5 and its tie ins, but i would personally recommend just watching them after the show because of how much they tie into the later events of the series, even In the Beginning which focuses on the Earth Minbari war, so 10 years before the show starts ties into stuff towards the end of the series, as its essentially being told from one character to another in the future of the shows timeline, so you would risk getting some stuff spoiled if you just jumped into it now. But as it gives a lot of context for why the station was build you could watch it first if you wanted though you could end up being a bit lost on some stuff set in the future

Also side note, In the Beginning is my personal favourite movie of the lot, i love watching it

Gotta say, the government aspect is far more believable and realistic in B5 than ST

ST was mostly practical. Only using cgi for weapon effects mainly. Even DS9 and voyager used practical models enhanced by CGI. They didn’t go all CGI until ST:I

All space scenes in B5 are CGI which in 94 was abysmal, but for its time ground breaking.

Also thanks for making me nostalgic for beast wars
