Hmm, not sure if I should admire their restraint in waiting 1 whole entire season, or be amused that they only managed to last 1 season before going from "Spock will not appear in Discovery" to "LOOK! SPOCK! A THING THAT YOU REMEMBER! SUBSCRIBE PLEASE!"

Still betting Burnham will end up in bed with Kirk.

Not that I’m getting my hopes up, but this seems a lot more in the spirit of Trek than the first season.

He'll be graduating next season. :p

And Burnham can't be a proper awful fanfic self-insert protagonist if she doesn't somehow get shoehorned into having a connection to KIRK! ANOTHER THING YOU REMEMBER!

DS9 takes place long after TOS, and Dax (the symbiote) is established to be several hundred years old, and it was just an amusing callback. That whole episode in general was just a fun one shot love letter to TOS.

Like, to compare since it was also a prequel, I never and still don't like Enterprise, but at least it was an honest prequel, meaning that even though they did it badly, they obviously genuinely made it a prequel because they wanted to tell stories from a largely undefined period of Trek 'history', and that was far enough back to be completely disconnected from any other series.

Compare to Discovery, which was so painfully obviously made a prequel for no other reason than to whore that sweet sweet TOS nostalgia for everything it's worth. SAREK! SPOCK! ENTERPRISE! COLORED SHIRTS! THINGS YOU REMEMBER!

I agree on the discovery bit but Enterprise was a great series apart from the ending as it was rushed I think it filled in a lot of gaps yet was still a series in its own right.

Apart from Sarek all of those things were conspicuously absent from Season 1 though.

I'm pretty sure that there's not been a self-destruct that's needed more than three people to authorise. Did I miss one?

To say nothing of the way Voyager apparently did away with the two-key lock and Janeway could just blow up the ship whenever she wanted.

Well, Voyager was a design clusterfuck anyway. I'm not surprised it had a weird self-destruct.

Voyager was originally dispatched to capture the Maquis ship Val Jean in the Badlands, so maybe they implemented that weird command protocol in case a Maquis insurrection (haha I made a movie pun) happened to infiltrate the ship?

But the Delta Quadrant theory is probably more correct.

No, during the climax of Nemesis Picard tries to set it (in the presence of three senior officers, at least two of whom are command certified) but can't because the system has been knocked out.

OMG Jean val Jean a shout out to Sisko's Javert arc.

Fed peace treaty with Cardassia defined that Fed must genocide Maquis planets. Suprisingly as soon as Fed exterminated Cardassia's enemies, Cardassia declares war versus Fed. If only Troii had been on duty to say 'Captain, these war-like aliens are war-like.

But on the other hand, it was Jellicoe who negotiated the Treaty. Maybe he agreed to the paragraph Fed must genocide Cardassia's enemies or Cardassia will declare War. as a delaying tactic. As long as there are Maquis about, Cardassia will NOT declare War.
